after a weekend of touring the shops, i ended up getting 7 otos... turns out the shops here only import the "exotic" bushynoses, so the prices were quite high, especially if im getting more than one... found a shop that kept otos in a densely planted tank, they were quite large (with plump stomachs)...

after a tour of the fish shops, i've been reevaluating whether to get otos or not... its commonly written that the otos tend to die-off right after purchase, yet if i leave it on the lfs, i think it will end up more emaciated (and possibly sickly from eating all that dead fish, lfs conditions for th...

Thanks! some websites have said that the quarantine tank should be populated with algae first, since they're probably half-starved to death already. what would be the easiest way to do this? leave the tank light on 24/7? or will providing algae wafers be ok already?

i think what people are saying is that 110 is not an ideal size to keep clowns till they're 12"... 125 may also be insufficient for clowns that size... what i was trying to say was that even though that may be the case, you still would have a few years to plan that larger tank... just my personal op...

one way to source (old) large tanks is to join those predatory fish forums... people in these forums get large tanks coz they keep large catfish, arowanas, cichlids that normally hit 1-2' in a year or two... a lot of times people have to continually upgrade their tanks, so you might be able to find ...

i had to take out all artificial decors this morning since i got a large clown stuck in one of the decors... having spent two hours sawing the decor, i decided to remove all of those with small holes and replaced them with pvc pipes... butt-ugly, but i guess it will do for the meantime... while movi...

1:15 seems high... that would mean a 100 gallon would need at least an eheim 2260 (27 liters of media)... i'd say two eheim 2217 (7 liters each) would be more than enough for a 100 gallon... so i'd double the ratio you mentioned

lately i've been seeing a significant number of clowns that seem to have this type of problem: 1. loach initially has problems swimming (awkward swimming posture) 2. loach starts swimming slanted 3. loach cannot seem to swim upright, can only swim while lying down (i make it a point to wait for at l...
