Re: making a huge tank

Sounds like a good project, looking forward to seeing how it progresses! I did a 'behind the scenes' tour of the Napier Aquarium last year and had a good look at how they filter all their big tanks. For the mid-sized ones (similar to yours, roughly, not the huge shark tank!) they had a large plastic...

Clowns >12"; just a myth or does someone actually ha

As the title says, we're all heard the stories, but I'm yet to see any photographic evidence of a clown loach that is over 12". This pic of Marge is about the only pic of a monster clown I've ever seen with a ruler or something showing scale. I have seen a pic of a large loach being held across two ...

Some new fatties

Today I picked up 6 new clowns, one just under 6", two just over 6", and three around 7", two of which are massively fat with eggs!! I didn't want to stress them more by taking pics of them with the measuring tape, but the squares on the bottom of the bins are a little over 2" across. http://i88.pho...

New Garage, New Fishroom, New copper pipes?

I just realised that the pipes in the new garage where I will be (was planning to anyway) get water for water changes from are copper. Is this likely to cause problems for my fish? I know clown loaches are sensitive to copper, and I'd hate to lose my big pack of them! The house is ~40 years old and ...

CL HITH???

I recently moved my largest 7 CL's from my 80g (which they shared with 14 other smaller CLs) to my 160g with the green aro, ornate, etc. The tank is fairly new, but established and with good water, regular changes, pH ~6.8 and at 27C. About a month after moving them I noticed some strange white mark...

The fish are already looking better, and with out the addition of chemicals too! I did a 30% water change yesterday morning (as mentioned in my last post) followed by about 15% mid afternoon and another 15% at 10pm last night. I've also reduced the amount of food going into the tank. This morning th...

Hi Emma. Oops, I forgot to put my location in my profile! Never heard of Bactinettes, but I'll go to the LFS today to see if I can find anything similar. The ammonia is about half what it was last night and the nitrites are also lower. I've done another 30% water change this morning. The loaches see...

Intro + question on cloudy eyes...

I'm a bit bummed that my first post here is of this nature, I've been lurking for a while now but haven't felt the need to post until now... Firstly, I've been keeping fish for around 10 years and have kept a wide variety of fresh water fish, with about the only exception being discus, they've just ...
