Hey I'm a little slow finding this thread but I just read it for the first time. I'm so glad to hear of it, though.! Having something accidentally survive in a tank is the only way I have ever bred anything and I love it because of the idea of it all happening naturally without doing anything other ...

If you haven't already you should add mature media from your other tank to the q- tank. The cloudy water is probably a bacterial bloom from excess nutrients building up from lack of bio filter. The cycle product you are using could be making the cloudiness worse. I have heard this product doesn't re...

I agree with putting it in a bucket, especially since you are saying it is getting picked on, and since it is a temperate fish. A ten gallon tank is even better. Excellent water quality is the most important thing you can provide for any fish, but especially one with wounds and/or a skin infection. ...

Pimafix is OK to use along with Melafix. Do you know the numbers for your water quality? Did you test? Different people have different ideas about what "fine" and "normal" are, so numbers are best. You can do a water change while medicating, just do it before adding the medication. Or if you do a 30...

Sorry I can't tell much by that picture since it isn't very clear. I see the red spot you're talking about, but is it really that red? Thats terrible! It could be septicemia, which is really a fancy word for blood poisoning. Usually it is caused by dirty water but I could imagine it might be brought...

Wow, andre, I missed the original posting of those pictures. That is fabulous! I love that giant vallis. Great job.

Mike, you don't sound overstocked to me right now but later on you'll need to upgrade, IMO.

I agree that phosphates should not matter and if I were you I'd stop worrying about it at all! There are plenty of other things to worry about. High phosphates may give you extra algae in your tank, especially if you have a lot of light, but thats not going to hurt the fish. I have never heard of an...

I love it! My yoyos and rostrata used to do this same thing on the lily pads in my aquarium because the food would float over the top once they disturbed the leaf enough to get water on it. I never thought of it as significant enough to mention, though, because they just always did it. I should chan...

For the striata, those conditions should be fine. It is my personal opinion based on my observations with my own fish that the most important things you can do for the fish is keep the water stable and keep it clean. Stretching their optimum pH and hardness is OK within reason as long as it is consi...

I knew I'd have difficulty explaining. Actually the tanks are very low to the floor right now. It will be 48" from the floor to the top of each tank. All the tanks must be the same height from the floor or the water-bridges will overflow the lowest tank. Oh, I see. That makes sense. So its actually...

64 watts -- Is that with normal output fluorescent tubes? That is very low light. You might want to consider upping it if you want to keep any plants.

Wow, those are some tall stands. I think my stands are something like 29 inches. But I have thought before it might be nice to have them taller. THey are a good height for viewing when sitting on a low couch but none of them are next to a couch.

If you want to use plants to reduce algae growth you'll need a LOT more than just a little clump of java moss. It will uptake some nutrients, but java moss is pretty slow growing. If it is a low light tank, which is probably is unless you went out of your way to get a good light, then I would recomm...
