It doesn't seem real practical to get a fish that has to hide every second or else gets eaten. You would never get to see it. But since you are enjoying the "fish" part of having a tank then you should totally set yourself up a tank.
I am sure the good folks here would help you get one started.

You ...

I second the dojo(weather) loach goldfsih combo. They get get large enough so that they are comparable in size to goldfish and are good in the same temps. I keep dojos with my fancy goldfsih and they get along great and I think they have nice complementary personality to the goldies.

I think your dojo loaches will be happy with 4 together. I don't think 5 or 6 is actually necessary. They are social fish but they are not schooling fish. I have had 4 in my 55 gal with goldfish for a couple years. That seems to be a good number for the size of tank. They can get to be quite large ...

Oh yeah Martin, that is an awesome picture of your Kuhli enjoying a leaf! Very nice.

capeldrae, thanks for sharing your pictures too. I like the rock pile one. My Loaches will be getting a nice big rock pile too.
I was actually considering making a more permanent rock pile by siliconing some rocks ...

Yeah they are going to love it. I ended up doing the boiling with several changes of water to release tannins. Most of the leaves are now soaking in a bucket now. I did put some in my QT tank for my lovely new Pangio doriae loaches :D They look so good with the leaves. They are the same color. I can ...

Does your Crawfish eat the leaves? I notice that most leafy plants in my Crawfish tank have sliced leaves and disappear. I have seen crawfish perch in leaves but never eat them. I know that they slice the leaves when they grab them.
Well, my crayfish does not eat the dead leafs really, perhaps ...

So I went for a little walk today down Oak St. for some leafs today. I figured Oak St. was the place to look :P Even though it was snowy out I found a bunch. They are in really good shape too. I still have not identified what exact kind of Oak leaf they are.
I am boiling them now. It smells very ...

leaf litter

I would like to get some leaf litter for my Pangios.
Is there a good way to just find some outside? I live in Michigan and it is wintery out but there are still a bunch of brown leafs on the ground.
Is that what I need to get? I see mostly maple and oak leaves.

thanks for the complements on my photos :)

I am really liking these loaches. I firstly thought I would not be able to tell them apart from eachother but they are demonstrating their own personallities and swimming styles so it is easy. I like that because I can name them individually that way :D ...

I went to the grocery store for a zucchini today. I stopped at the fish department first and found the 3rd loach that I saw in there! So I caught it myself quite quickly and completely forgot my zucchini due to my excitement.
They are not too hard to catch as they are slower than the Black Kuhlis ...

Oh yeah, i wanted to ask... Is it incorrect for me to call these Kuhlis?
The common name would be eel loach right?
Sorry for the dumb question but I usually don't know the scientific/correct name for fish species.

I have some better photos of them today. I labeled them loachA and loachB so you all know which one you are looking at.

new Kuhli's; not sure which kind. (More Pictures)

I got two new loaches today. I am not possitive but I think they are Pangio anguillaris. Correct me if I am wrong.

These are the best pictures I could take before my batteries died.
