Re: Zebra loaches

I've only seen zebras once (for sale) and I bought them all. You can still see them in display tanks sometimes labelled 'NFS'. There are still a bunch of rostrata in a local LFS, they also had a few kubotai a while back. The rules about what is allowed in are tightening up so they will become less a...

Re: Zebra loaches

The one thing I did notice is your fish have a really dark base colour ,almost black where my own Striata seem more brown ,could it be the lighting or are they pretty dark :?: Are these your only Botia's/loaches or do you have others :?: I think the environment (dark when I was taking the shots) an...

Is it just me or did that splendida try to take a nip out of the flank of one of the other loaches at exactly 24 seconds from the end?

1. Fish that are natural predator and prey can live together happily for years if they 'meet' under the right conditions (ie usually grow up together) 2. The balance can be thrown off by new fish (eg adding smaller versions of the ones they're accustomed to, or by shifting Alpha status) 3. You have ...

Homaloptera ID please

This is one of a group of (probable) Homaloptera orthogoniata I bought, but some of them are lighter in colour and smaller. Just wanted to get opinions on whether they are in fact orthogoniata If you click on the pic you'll get a 4MB image, 11143 pixels wide. Dial-up users beware. http://i192.photob...

Yellow Finned Hillstream Loach

Gastromyzon viriosus

This guy has adapted to eating algae disks much more than all the other Gastromyzons in my tank.

Homaloptera ID please

I initially thought these guys were Homaloptera confuzona but now I think they might be Homaloptera orthogoniata Just picked up two of these guys from Vebas. They'll max out at three or five inches depending which one, makes no difference to me in my 7 foot tank but my mate Joe who bought five think...

Hillstream loach ID please

They sell these guys as Borneo scooters/chinese hillstream loaches/whatever here in Australia. They never try to give a scientific name. In fact there are plenty of places that call them catfish. These guys arrived in a shipment recently. Joe got a few and they didn't like his tank, I got one today ...

Rostrata (probably)

While I picked up 6 Botia rostrata down at Aquotix, Joe got interested and picked out three that looked 'a bit different' to him.

Are these definitely rostrata?

Well Done there. Get as many you can!! How did they come in? Were they a contamination of something else? Or were they allowed in? I would appreciate if you could find out any info for me as I would like to see some here in Brisbane! Thanks. I didn't buy them in person and haven't been to that LFS ...
