That looks very bad, the first thing i thought of was "hole in the head".
if i'm right then i'm sure it would be kinder to put them out before it gets worse.

Culling all my clowns seems a bit extreme at this point. The clowns dont seem to be distressed and still can be seen playing and ...

hi laika, i get the gallonage to just over 70 galls, once the decors in you should have around 65 galls,

Your proposed tank size will be ok only short-term for clown loaches, as you will need to bear in mind that an upgrade to a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft will be needed within a few years (sooner rather than later to avoid stunting your clowns).
