Your Tank
WoweeJowee! I caught the fish going thru the bridge, and your last video of the speed of those loaches. (The Boesmans are great too) This is quite the accomplishment. That is some system, and to be envied. I did think "now I hope he doesn't have to ever net those fish from TWO tanks" And I sincerely...

Keith--my experience with L. nummularia is that it does fine even up to 100 degrees. I've had it in all situations around outside, from full sun, where it blooms well, to shade, where it grows longer strands. But I can't tell you from experience about how it would do in an aquarium at 80+ degrees. I...

plant life
ChiefKeith, I believe lysimachia will grow out and then down, if you are still looking for a plant that will trail....it seems to grow either in or out of water.
I can't speak to your wonderful-looking plans, as I've never undertaken such a project, but more power to you!

i have gone through many plants since setting up my tank 14 months ago, due to the loaches stripping, punching, pulling, and just plain eating them. Water wisteria went in a few days, like three days, I remember. The java fern I have tied to driftwood: the loaches went after the young growth first. ...

Thanks. I am working at getting a larger tank, but mine is pretty stable. My water tests run the same from one time to the next. I just had a problem with fish dying anyway.........not the loaches, but some of the smaller ones. Had an earlier discussion on this forum re mycobacterium (fish TB) possi...

Yo! Chuckle chuckle. I don't want to turn my precious fish into pigs of the guinea type, and though I'm not strong on science, the RexGrigg article seems to be right on to me. So thanks, folks, I will let someone more adventurous than me experiment with this vacuum-sealed, Infrared-sans-electricity ...

Device for water
I have had trouble with various fish dying and was recommended at this forum to use a UV light, which I've had running for a month now. A couple fish died in this last month which I figured were infested previously. Otherwise things seem pretty much stable in the tank, but I do need to re-arrange (w...

There is a new submersible plug-n-play that some folks swear by for versatility and movability between tanks for bacteria, algae, and 'bug' control. Made by JBJ Submariner, available online for about $60. Looks good. There is a similar one at petsmart which has a teeny filter which needs cleaning ev...

Thankyew! That was an extremely helpful set of posts you referred me to, and I'm afraid the situation described there fits mine to a T. So, a UV Sterilizer it is, as soon as possible. I also solemnly swear to have a QT running before purchasing any new fish, and may get it running now, funds permitt...

OK, I read up on the mycobacteriosis and recall back that the first fish to die mysteriously did exhibit symptoms of lethargic, periodic swimming, with periods of not swimming. He also showed scoliosis and anorexia. This was a glofish danio. Anyway----eek! We humans can catch this. Yucky. I read an ...

Thanks for your input. I do not have a quarantine tank yet, I admit, and that is next on my list. Funny how otherwise smart people (like me) have to learn from costly and sad mistakes. They die 3-4 months after introduction, and sometimes later than that, so I don't think introduction to my tank is ...

I kept community tanks for 14 years, till 1991, and now I can look back and see what I did wrong from knowledge that's available these days, and have learned a lot in the last 11 months I've had my 35-gal tank. I have two filters, 1 is a Biowheel, 1 a submersed Fluval, and an air wand. My water qual...

The nose dance
Hi! I am new here after lurking for several months and soaking up all I can from the forum and site. I had kept fish for 15 years before, gave it up after a move and kids arriving, but set up a new tank last October. In November, after it had cycled, I couldn't resist putting in some clowns. The LFS...
