Re: New Yasuhikotakia sp. ?!

IMO there is no doubt that it is Yasuhikotakia sp. - the general body shape is more "taller" than shape of all Syncrossus spp. . The nose of all tigers is always sharp-ended. What's more those have 7-8 branched dorsal fin rays, while tigers have always more of them. The thing is to identify which sp...

Hey! I've just received those mystery loaches :D About one week ago. Now they are in quarantine tank. Still shy and they are hiding. They eat well, but especially in the night, however i see the more and more activity in the day. Please check out the photos: http://podforak.rzeszow.pl/upload/u3402_1...

Re: Clown Loaches from Sumatra vs Borneo

Yes, I hope that the hormone-induced Clowns are only a little piece of all available in trade. I also don't think that it is always pay off, because as I know Otocincus sp. is generally imported from SA as a wild fish, cause it is still cheaper than Otocinclus' imported from asian farms. Maybe it is...

Re: Clown Loaches from Sumatra vs Borneo

Huh, I've just found out one astonishing fact. About the botias I was writing about: I've purchased three tiny clowns lately and two of them have 'normal bornean' pelvic fins, and one looks like sumatran form. This one with red pelvic fins has also shorter rear stripe (it surely doesn't reach the ca...

Re: Clown Loaches from Sumatra vs Borneo

Redshark1 thank You ever so much for this link! That's very interesting. I've just spent a few hours on firstly analyzing this article, than checking the source which was citated, than checking the sources which were citated in this source... Whoah! :P I'll probably spend next few hours on that. An...

Re: Clown Loaches from Sumatra vs Borneo

How big are Your new loaches? That's a tricky aspect that juveniles of bornean form are sometimes very much alike the sumatran form fish. They also have red pelvic fins. There is no rule - they can look like clowns from Sumatra while beeing young and they can be typical 'Borneans' all along. I've pu...

Re: Clown loach TDS?

IMHO the lower it is, the better for clowns. We have to remember that calcium and magnesium are most common cations in average river and that's why we usually oversimplify problem only to hardness (which is connected calcium and magnesium). So as follows: hardness is generally directly proportionate...

Re: New loach tank idea - sheet flume

Yes, that's exactly as Bas Pels said - that is a popular term in trade, as we buy for example "Clown loach WF" , we buy wild caught fish (WF=Wild Fish), when we buy "F1" we buy an offspring of WF specimens, etc. But it was very nice to read Your observations about their diet :) Why I am asking about...
