Re: The Obscure Loaches Of North India
I had gone to Himachal Pradesh last year to try and collect Schistura rupecola . While I did collect a species of Schistura fairly close to the type locality, I am not completely sure this is the real thing. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zh5sUVN9tuk/VFHBaVrXdxI/AAAAAAAANyk/izkpsnVknnU/s640/HK%2...

Re: The Obscure Loaches Of North India
NICE! Were you able to look at them under water? Any sort of viewing box? No unfortunately, I purchased a waterproof camera only recently but I moved out of Uttarakhand in November last year. Are you thinking the reddish-pale ones and the dark+yellow ones are the same species? Are the colors some s...

The Obscure Loaches Of North India
Long time since I was here. I spent a couple of years in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand and collected quite a few loaches most of which could not be ID'ed down to species level. Thought you guys might like to take a look at them. I am not a photography whiz and being in the field and trying t...

Re: Somiletes-gongota - cat eyed loach
Atr these native fish? if so, are they wild caught? How long have you had them? Do you feed them anything in specific or do they gleen food from the sand? Prepared food or live? I am curious because these are amazing fish, and I know they can be difficult to keep. Such pretty fish and unusual. How ...

Re: Somiletes-gongota - cat eyed loach
It is Canthophrys gongota now. A really cool loach to keep. Fine sand and sinking food is essential as starsplitter7 pointed out. Absolutely peaceful even though their looks suggest otherwise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnBUkJM4uws&list=UUInpnytS9Il7PWbSoP_habQ&index=2&feature=plcp Foraging beha...

Re: Lepidocephalus/Lepidocephalichthys Find!
Hey Steve,
Specimens were collected from a bog inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jalpaiguri District, northern West Bengal. The same bog also holds the population of Channa sp 'Assam' known as Lalcheng. The nearest big rivers are the Sankosh and the Jorai.

Prominent nasal barbels and truncate caudal suggest an Indoreonectes sp.??? I.everzadi has been reported from your region. A good pic can be seen here ; http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/Pictures ... at=species

Mesonemacheilus Or Schistura??
Mesonemacheilus herrei was my initial guess but I have received opinions that it could be Schistura semiarmatus . The specimen is from South India. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-40FQH3WW824/TpbDSY1FUoI/AAAAAAAAFWA/64DJJ5s3Nds/s640/Picture%2B068.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zNSTGQLrfL...
