My poor guy has some "dents" that look alot like that. I did a water change today, and noticed in the past week we had a heavy buildup of dark green algae, and a minor buildup of brown algae. I DO use carbon in the filter, I dunno if that makes a difference. I'm starting to think this is also HITH, ...

I can't seem to get any good clear pictures. but his head also looks like it has spots on it. Not tiny ich spots, but more like... well, sort of like water stains on glass. a smattering of larger, white faded spots that could be cottony growths, or could be him bumping up against objects. his top fi...

The quaratine was set up weeks before, with old filter material, and with smaller fish at first to further cycle it. We also tried acclimating by drip, and we also also tried acclimating them in a smaller tank that had a couple fish in it, so it was more fully cycled. We just don't currently have ro...

At this current point in time, I can only do the 30 for him. The whole set up was given to me, in fact, and I wish I had room for a bigger tank. Believe me, I want one! For him, and because something bigger would be so much fun. But I'm living with the future in laws, and it's slightly cramped space...

clown loach gone dark
Hello! I have an older clown loach (maybe 7 yrs or so). Recently, he has "gone dark". His fins look spotty, but not with ich. Just, faded. Most of his body is dark most of the time, and he spends a lot of the day in a corner or under his rock cave. A couple months ago my smaller loaches died. Right ...

I'm using the Jungle 5-in-1 test strips. I'd been using the strips, and though I don't have a key (the bottle got tossed, and the strips must have fallen out at some point), I can still recognize that the colors are roughly the same as those I've been consistently getting, except with a lower pH. Th...

Help! Dying loaches with white peeling "skin"
I've had a couple of loaches now, and while they are in quarantine, very early on, they seem to get a whitish "peeling" "skin" on them, and they seem to die slowly. My pH, when I tested today, was a bit on the acidic side, but we're trying to raise it a bit, slowly. This happened to another couple o...

That is a sign of a good LFS. My LFS has been having trouble with its shipments of guppies and the owner refuses to sell them until he knows they are healthy (he usually doses them for a week or two before selling them). They also didn't let me get worked up in a frenzy over some bengal and chain l...

That's what I was thinking. Nice to know I'm starting to get this stuff. :P When I started having fish back in college, I didn't know the internet, and I certainly didn't have anyone to ask, as our LFS were both bad, and dying out. I'm excited, now, though. I also found liveaquaria.com, which has ch...

Hi folks- I'm going to try giving the new tank the 10 gals filter cartridge, and letting the 10 have the newer cartridge. The new tank's filter is currently cycling in the big 30 loach tank, so as to get something going in there. I'm definitely going to try borrowed material for this fishless cycle,...

The 30 currently has my one remaining big loach, and a big old angelfish. The 10 has the betta and the 2 tetras. The 5 I just set up, of course, and it's got nothing in it. I don't want to rip up the 10's filter media, since it's keeping that tank good. Edit to mention, the last time I switched filt...

Oh, that's a neat idea. I can't add any media to the small tank's filter, since it's one of those... erm, ok, well, it came from a Walmart kit, long ago. It was cleaned, etc, but you know, the filter media is one of those drop-in filter things. I wish I'd have known this sooner, because I was hoping...
