Kuhlii Loaches and Silica Sand

Hi everyone! I have a 90 gallon discus show tank in which I used four inches of white silica sand for substrate. I have vallisnerias and various swordplants in it and so far they seem to be establishing themselves. I have several root tabs around the base of each clump of plants as these are heavy r...

I once thought that I had lost my tiretrack eel. Then one day as I was cleaning my eclipse filter I saw a fin stick up where the filter pad is positioned. It suddenly moved and so, with wet net flailing and me screaming my head off, I found my eel again!

The big guy still has lockjaw. Aside from that, he is still behaving normally. I see him performing courting and mating behaviors with his two females and being the boss of the tank. I will continue to monitor his condition. It is just frustrating to see a fish in this condition for no apparent reas...

It doesn't seem like he does. It just looks like he is unable to move his jaws.

Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlid Has Lockjaw

What's wrong with him? I see him attempting to eat but he can't close his mouth. All the other fish in the heavily planted tank, including the two female cockatoo cichlids, are fine. Everybody else seems fine except for him. Help!

You could also try eggcrate available at any home improvement store - lighting or insulation department. You can use wirecutters to trim it to the configuration you need to fit around equipment going in or out of the tank. If your loahces are bigger than the grids this may help keep them in the tank...

Thank you, Gary! I have decided to just keep Shamu with my discus. He is used to them. I may have to get rid of some discus so I can turn the 75 into a SA tank and be able to keep the tetras.

Thanks for responses, everybody! Diana, what do you think of keeping the tank at 78F and gradually acclimating Shamu to that from 84F? Is 78F the upper threshold in temps for the neons?

Neon Tetras with Clown Loach

Yes, clown loach (singular). I tried to get 8 more CLs, successfully QTd them. I was actually able to grow them on from 1.5 to about 3". Then got 3 more and just added them to the 65 where the 8 juvie CLS were - BIG MISTAKE! :( ICH got them all. So the original CL I have that I have had since 2004, ...

Feyna, do your loaches happen to have white spots on them, too? I added 4 to the 8 CLs in my tank without quarantining and now I am so mad at myself! I had an outbreak of ich and ironically the clowns that are dying first are the ones that I have had the longest. They do show that white slimy peelin...

A fish would get a lesion and the lesion(s) wo...
