Re: Could my clown loach be pregnant?

Female clown loaches tend to expand on the lower half of their bodies as the grow larger. Without some pictures of what you consider a "big belly", it is very hard to help.

Re: CLown Loaches or just killers....

The only time I have read about this type of behaviour from clown loaches, it was tied to breeding, just do a google search on large clown loaches showing aggressive behaviour. http://tamarind.hubpages.com/hub/Clown-Loaches talked about it in a small section.

Re: SWEETYSMUMS SICK CLOWN LOACH HELP

I wish I could offer something useful, it sounds like the owner is knowledgeable already (and having the fish for 28 years should demonstrate that well enough) and doing what needs to be done. I hope the vet meds will help. Many recommend feeding peas when your fish is sick or constipated, you might...

Re: clown loach shortage?

It has always been this way in my experience. The clown loaches that come into any big box store almost always seem to be either skinny, icky and/or small. The only time you find large clown loaches in when someone has traded them in for whatever reason and then that is always mom and pop shops, not...

Re: Wet-dry filter and aquaponics? Filtration for a 60gal

How complex or simple your tank filtration system and accessory systems are is really up to you. I have not really heard of many trying to combine hydroponics (on any larger scale) with aquarium filtration. You might want to consider a refugium instead of actual hydroponics. I would have to ask what...

Re: CLOWN LOACH VIOLENCE LAST 2 DAYS HELP

Just saw this thread, linked from the one where your 3rd largest passed from fighting. Sorry he's gone, condolences. The only other time I have read of this type of aggressive behavior, it was related to breeding. http://aquariumlore.blogspot.com/2006/06/clown-loach.html check the section on breedin...

Re: Best substrate for Clown Loaches?

Thanks for the responses everyone and I do believe that it was your rebuild Redshark1, that I had been reading (but could not find when I looked), and made me question what I *think* I know about substrates and Clown Loaches. Redshark1 your clowns are freaking awesome and lovely, and to me their col...

Best substrate for Clown Loaches?

I was reading a post the other day (which I of course cannot find now) in which someone was rebuilding their tank and they listed in the rebuild that they had changed the substrate from sand to gravel in order to make the Clowns color up more. I need some clarity on this if anyone can provide it. I ...

Re: Lost 4 loaches

Are you aware of the heat and salt treatment for ich? I do not like to use meds if I can help it on my clowns. If you are not aware of the heat/salt treatment, you can read more at http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ich2.php and if links are not allowed (or this is removed) just google "treat ich w...

Re: SHEDDING

I have seen my largest clown get stuck in an ornament once. Once she freed herself, she "shed" a lot of "skin" (more like mucous). Specifically the "skin" was stuck on the ornament where she had been struggling to free herself. I would call this a "sloughing" of skin, rather than "shedding". Is this...

Re: Can anyone in Central Ca help me please?

I'll add in my 2c. Capitol Aquarium used to be much better, but it is still a large store with decent stock, but not that many loaches. A new store opened in Sacramento recently, owned by the same people that run O St aquarium, Aqua Workz (http://www.aquaworkzaquarium.com). They have a showroom near...

Have to agree with Ardilla on this, turn off your lights. Maybe even consider changing whatever lighting system you are using to something softer. My clowns dont like the lights, but will come out with lights on for a regular feeding in the afternoon. However their morning feeding the sun has not re...

Thanks for the compliments all. I've had this group of 7 loaches for nearly 3 years now, and got most of them at good size to start (nothing under 3" iirc). They are primarily fed hikari sinking cichlid pellets (medium reds, fit in their mouths just fine), with some allternation with hikari cichlid ...

Clown Loach Spot or not(w pics)??

I haven't posted much in a while, but have a question about one of my clowns. All of them are in great shape, moving well, nice and thick and active. I was cleaning the tank yesterday and wanted to get some pictures to see if anyone can tell me if they think that I have a medical issue or if this is...

Lemon juice, on a sponge or paper towel, or vinegar, both work on calcium deposits. Sometimes you may want to actually soak a towel or sponge and just leave it in place on the area in question. For scratches, that can be a lot of work, I do have an acrylic and was able to buff out some, but its not ...
