Freshwater Bristleworms Killing my Loaches? Picture Included

Lately I've had some unexplained fish deaths in my 55 Gallon tank - too many just to be coincidence. It started out with just a few Kuhlis dying here and there, and I figured since they were mostly the same age that perhaps they had come to the end of the line. The bodies had an odd look, and seemed...

Although I cannot claim to have any answers to this mystery, those pores remind me of the sensory pores on Crocodilians. I watched a TV show a while back, and "they" were doing a study on the purpose of those pores. They are located on the snout of the animal, and around the head. They used a baby A...

Unfortunately, they are sold out anyway:( I do agree about the dyed and hybrid fish, and would never buy them. The processes they use to dye and tattoo fishes are horrific, and forced hybridization is highly unnatural, often leaving the fish with undesirable traits that must make life for them uncom...

I just checked the link, and it works, but it will take you to a slideshow. (Sorry it is long) If you are patient, it is near the end. There are some other neat fish on the list though too.

Hi, Jim.., Thanks for the response! I hope this link works. http://www.littlefishcompany.com/Little_Fish_Company/PHOTO_GALLERY/Pages/Freshwater.html#137 It is a picture of the "Flying Leopard Pleco." A good testament as to why we prefer the Latin names:) If you could ID it, that would be even better...

No need to worry! My striped Kuhlies have spots like this as well. Since many striped Loaches are under the umbrella of "Kuhli," it can be hard to tell which species you have. Their markings are so individual and apt to change with time and mood. In fact, most Loaches change pattern over time. To lo...

Will Homoloptera Eat Cherry Shrimp?

I might have the opportunity to get some Homoloptera. They are being called "Flying Leopard Plecos," and the picture onsite leaves me unable to identify a particular species. But I was wondering if they would eat Red Cherry Shrimp. If they would eat only the smallest babies, this would be OK. What I...

Maybe I missed this, but what kind of Loaches are they? Many Loaches will hide at first, until they become comfortable, then there are others which seem to explore the tank at first and then become more sedentary, retreating to hiding places. I found my Kuhli Loaches were like this. Although I have ...

Hello again.., Sorry I have not been around as much to respond; I just got all four of my wisdom teeth removed and have been somewhat out of commission. I would second what Diana says about the carbon. I read your post and your tank change routine was impeccable. No problems there. But I have heard ...

Hi again.., Glad to hear things are looking a little better. I feel somehow a part of what you're doing here because we talked so much when you were deciding on and setting up your new tank. I looked back at your other posts and something occurred to me. I can't remember you saying what kind of filt...

Hi, Bully.., Thanks! That's neat to know. I always wondered why some of them are orange. The markings are definitely a saddle shape. I got my colony of CRS from my boyfriend who has added to the stock occasionally to introduce new genes. Still, it's hard to say where they came from. Last night we mo...

Hi, Graeme.., That is a very impressive specimen! She looks quite large, too. The colour is so bold, and I love the eyes! I keep "Cherry Red" Shrimp as well, but I put it in quotations because there seems to be a lot of variety among them. Some of the females are a very vivid solid red, some have a ...

Hi.., I'm sorry there's not much more I can offer in the way of help.., but just want to say, I hope you get this sorted out. After such a big move it's a lot to go through, especially when it means treating everything in a brand new tank. I think sometimes diseases can wait in the wings for an oppo...

Very nice looking fish! Histrionica are my favourite Botia, but it's not often you see them this large. They are so individual in their markings too, you'll have no trouble telling these apart! I'm sure they'll love their new home.
