Patchy disease
Hi, Recently, I've been finding dead Sewellia loaches in my tanks. They had patches on them. I started to treat with antibiotics (Maracin 1 and 2), but no improvement: they were still dropping like flies. One day looking good, next day dead with patches. Then I realized that the loaches were dying, ...

Shameless plug
Hi folks, I just wanted to let everyone know that Mark Denaro, an importer slightly north of Philadelphia, is doing a few last imports before hanging his importer hat and putting on his hobbyist hat. His imports are just too long to list, but they include some loaches. The planned import from German...

Hi Emma, I almost know that article by heart :) My fish are very shy and have plenty of space to hide. There is a very large piece of driftwood that they can go and live under. So that's where they spend most of their time. I am trying to find some large river rocks, and I will probably replace the ...

Howdy, A local importer (Mark Denaro) did a convoluted order from a German wholesaler. I managed to get 12 of these. There were a lot of rare species on the list, including some rare pencils and Uaru fernandezyepezi. Unfortunately, Mark is pulling out of the importing business. Fortunately, Mark is ...

Sewellia sp spotted
Howdy, I took a few lame shots of my Sewellia sp spotted, in case someone can guess sexes on these individuals, please let me know. I promise that when I get my new camera, I will also wipe the glass. Any ideas on spawn triggers are welcome . . . so far it's just clean water and good food. They are ...

Hi, I have not seen them do anything. The guy I got them from just brought them to me. He knew I was interested in the species, but that's all he could get from his sources. The coloration is fine. The males have their dorsal with the red trimming . . . . I don't see anything particularly wrong othe...

P. cheni - sick and/or starved
Hi, I recently received a rescue project in the shape of 7 P. cheni. They all look skinny; they are too skinny to get proper suction on surfaces. Half of them have serious trouble turning over after ending up on their backs. My guess is that because of their sunken bellies, the center of gravity is ...

Egg rocks
Where does one find the large round rocks that I often see in Gastromyzon photos? My local home improvement stores don't carry them in that size, largest egg rocks I have seen there would be 2". Fish shops only stock slate around here.

Cleaning a loach tank
Howdy, I currently have a dozen Sewellia sp SPOTTED. I use sand as substrate, with 4 larger rocks and a large driftwood. At this point it is easy to feed the fish as the food stays at the top of the substrate and they eat it . . . whenever they eat. I do water changes from the top of the tank to avo...
