sorry to hijack this post but how long does it take for you bio-wheel and sponges to build up lots of bactiera?
my tank has been in it's current incarnation for about 8 months now and there is not much building up.

I found that planting seems to(note seems to) make all the levels better now than in my old set up. But i do have smaller fish now- but i have more -so???

About 2 hours after i posted here my Loaches started swimming in circles in the middle of my tank, nonstop for the last 12 hours. they were having such fun i took a video. Enjoy.

i have had the 6 Botia kubotai loaches for about 3 weeks now and they are fun to watch. they are out alot and will swim together in groups or alone. they love the current, and thanks to ??? someone here for the advice "Botia kubotai like cracks rather than caves like some other loaches."

I believe they hide mostly during the day and come out at night.
I had a hard time choosing between the kuhlis and the Botia kubotai that
I bought 6 of recently. (Love them)

just thought i would post an update on how the tank is doing now that i have had the new tank up for a few months now. it is doing great i am pleased to say.
the fish i have chosen interact great with each other and that combined with the way i set the tank up i see all the fish swimming around ...

Totally a guess but do you change too much water when you do a water change/ That can hurt your good bacteria.
Why i hope someone else will inform if i am correct.

I am no expert because i am new to loaches but from what i remember reading here the older they get the more docile they become.?
Anyone want to correct me.?

Thank you all for you concern. I cleaned and refilled the tank today.
I am running the filters but not the current, that way everything moves twards and into the filters. then i plan to drain the water and start for real. I am off to the store to buy a few things and i should be starting anew later ...
