Thanks for the thumbs-up and thanks for the critique. I know the round stones look a bit unnatural in there. I just wanted unicolored dark stones. If I find a supply for rougher stones that are dark grey/black, I'll propably go for them. But first I gotta get the riverbank done (with maybe a small ...

Do you know about how old they are? And the sexes? I have 4 males and 2 females, from what I can tell. The females seem to be bigger than the males that I have, but they will fight over "their" spots on rocks or certain places on the back of the tank. As soon as they see another one nearby they will...

Out of curiosity are your guys' hillstream loaches wild caught or tank bred? All six of mine are youngsters (sewellia lineolata's), the biggest is possibly 2 inches at most and that would include his tail fin, the smallest one is about an 1 1/2 inches. Mine were all wild caught and imported from Vie...

I don't have a stream tank set up for my loaches yet, I run 2 canister filters and some HOB's on my 125 gallon tank, all together it cycles the tank water over 10 times and hour. I'm still working on my project in the 55 gallon to eventually make it a stream tank for my Sewellia Lineolata's. I also ...

I have had my Sewellia Lineolata's for just about a week now, and they seem to be happily grazing on the algae growth on the back of the tank (and some of the growth on the anubias plants). I'm concerned that they will not get enough food and may start to starve. I have lots of algae growth as I hav...

They seem to be doing good, and are grazing on the algae growth on the back/sides of the tank. I have yet to see them ea...

Well my wild caught Sewellia Lineolata's arrived yesterday and have acclimated wonderfully. They are fascinating to watch, and quick little guys! I can't wait to finish my project and get the tank established so I have a stream like environment to enjoy them in. They hide off and on throughout the d...

I found a store online that seems to sell good sponge that is bendable. I have thinner sponge on hand but figured it needs to be thicker than 1/2 an inch. I could get another piece of thin sponge (maybe 1 inch or more, depending on what I can find in town) and then glue it to the other piece of spon...

My pleasure. Sounds like you are going to have plenty enough filtration. If I was me, I would not rig the Eheim intake behind the matt. You need a relatively big mat to cope with all that flow, if you want to keep biological filtration optimal. Also, they tend to be easier to clean without disturbi...

Thanks for clarifying how you clean your sponges. I plan on trying out the corner mattenfilter, but it's not the only filter system I'm putting on the tank, I'm also going to run an eheim 2128 professional thermofilter 2 with a UV filter attached to it, I figure this should give plenty of mechanical...

Okay curiousity ruled out for me. I'm wondering how the mattenfilter is cleaned in the pictures at the beginning of the thread. It looks like it's 2 pieces secured together, are they both removed at the same time? Plants are growing on one side of the filter too, do those get peeled off or just rins...

Well that last post was a bit messy (was in a hurry on the way to work). I will clarify what I have running on my 125 gallon tank right now that could possibly house the loaches until I get the 55 gallon tank finished and running for a bit. Magnum 350 deluxe (350 gph, no bio wheel) Eheim 2128 profes...

Love all of the pictures of your hillstream loaches :) I'd love to get a variety of them eventually. I have already paid for the loaches so I don't think the seller will appreciate if I ask him to hold him for several months, LOL. I could put them in the currently established 125 gallon downstairs, ...

No the filter is currently running on my already cycled tank, I am going to switch it over to the 55 gallon tank when the loaches get here, that way it will already have nitrifying bacteria growing in it before I move it to the other tank, at most I might get a mini-cycle.
