The mystery yellow powder turned out to be salt and Nitrofurazone. It's sold in big containers for treating koi ponds. For the price, totally worth it - and one bottle of the stuff should last me for approximately ever. The dojo is back in the main tank, completely healed, and spent quite a while bl...

My dojos do this a lot. There isn't a lot of flow in my tank - it seems to be a feeding-time behavior, as I don't see it any other time. I wonder if they're catching the particles she blows out of her gills? The peppered loaches will stick to the big dojo, too (or even the little one) but I have not...

She's eating! \o/ She's also hunted the QT!snails into submission - I figured when I saw her chewing on a baby MTS that she might appreciate some algae wafer. She can handle the little ones. The big ones are not on the menu; they close up and she doesn't seem to be able to open them. Whatever the my...

She's not eating. =/ I went to the LFS, where I am a regular customer; they gave me some of what they use for bacterial infection. It turned the water a rather noxious color of yellow, but she didn't flip out when I put it in (mixed the dose with tank water in a bowl, then put it in with a baster) a...

Injured dojo going downhill
Good morning, About two weeks ago, my biggest dojo loach (6+ inches, and as thick as my finger, friendly, boisterous, and too curious for her own good) decided to find out where the gravel vaccuum went while I was cleaning the tank. I didn't get it away from her fast enough and she got her head stuc...

This thread has been a great read. Here's to keeping the critters healthy and happy! Both of my dojos seem to delight in uprooting stem plants. I've seen them exploring right around the base until, whoops! There goes the plant. The big one also goes weaving through the holes in the driftwood for no ...

Hi! Sorry to hear about your kubotai. :( I just had the same problem with some peppered loaches. Plastic wrap, taped in place with clear tape, solved the problem temporarily, and doesn't look quite as out of place as duct tape over everything. The permanent solution in my case was to get them out of...

Dojo clicking!
I did a search in this forum. Came up with this thread. Seems to be the only information and nobody was really sure if it was the dojo producing the sound. I've had many instances of loud, apparently sourceless clicks from the tank, and when I look, the dojo's typically hanging around in the filter ...

I have seen my dojo eat snails, but only the little ones - he seems to really enjoy juvenile pond snails, will pick them up, suck them out, and then play with the empty shell, turning it over and over in his mouth, spitting it, catching it, etc. He pesters larger pond snails, will knock them off the...

That's a good point - hadn't thought of that! Would recycling some mulm from my icky ugly gravel do the same? I can keep it in the same container as the fish. I'm going to Eco-Complete, which claims to have live bacteria, but am not sure how much I trust the advertising claims. Sorry... slight threa...

It may be helpful, before you move, to get a big, clean plastic container (Rubbermaid makes good ones.) I use the 20-gallon variety for temporary fish housing. It's opaque black, very strong, and has a lid. Usually I don't have that lid on, but if I need to, it's there. I'll be moving across town in...

Well, the new loaches came out of QT at the LFS yesterday, so of course I brought two home to replace the two I lost. *s* And discovered... they have Y. sidthimunki in stock. Aggggh. Breathe with me.. not buying more loaches, not buying more loaches... This morning, the peppers are still in the tank...
