Re: Clicking

My Syncrossus loaches don't typically click for food but click over territory all the time. Usually I hear a quick burst of clicks, 3-6 in just a second or two. I assume it's the two loaches having the dispute. Someone has dared to sit in front of someone else cave.

Re: Yo-yo, clowns and red tail botia

I see what you were getting at Greek. I think I read your post too quickly, saw S. Helodes, and thought, "Hey, what are we talking about again"???

I didn't know S.Helodes got so big. I think I saw them once and passed. Good thing, I don't have that kind of room.

Re: Yo-yo, clowns and red tail botia

Glv, Just for clarification when you say Red Tailed Botia do you mean Syncrossus Helodes which Greek refers to or Yasuhikotakia modesta. Red Tailed Botia means Y. Modesta to me, probably because that is what my LFS labels them as. And in my experience they are much more common than S. Helodes. Or ma...

Re: Hard to photograph fish

Greek, You may be correct. i don't think these fish look like the pictures on loaches.com for S. Reversa or S. Hymenophysa. When they were young they looked more like Hymenophysa. They had more green but as they have aged they have turned more of a blueish grey color and their stripes fade about hal...

Hard to photograph fish

I haven't checked this forum in several years. But tonight I got the itch to take some pictures of my "Mean fish" tank. I have a 3 Syncrossus Berdmorei and 5 Syncrossus Hymenophysa, 4 skunk loaches, 6 Arulius Barbs, and a few BN Plecos. http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab307/sharkscott2/20160225_1...

Re: Best Algae Eater for My Tank?

I use siamese algae eaters and bushy nose plecos in my tanks. But my smallest tank is 40 gallons. I once tried to use Nerite snails with Kubotais and Arulius Barbs. Between the Barbs and the Kubs they managed to flip the snails over and eat them. Kubs love snails!!

Re: Appropriate substrate for dojo loaches

I keep my Dojo's on Eco Complete. It's not ideal for them because they can't dig much in it. But it doesn't harm them. There is also a product called Turface which is typically used for lands hacaping but many people use it for aquariums. It's smooth and very light weight. So light weight that plant...

Re: Dojos and siamese algae eaters

I have some SAEs in a tank with Dojos. The species get along fine. My biggest concern is the temperature requirements of both species. I believe SAEs prefer warmer water than dojos. My tank stays at room temp, about 72-74 degrees, the SAE's might like it a bit warmer. Make sure you're getting the co...

Re: Botia berdmorei

Are you talking about Syncrossus Berdmorei? http://www.loaches.com/species-index/syncrossus-berdmorei This guy was moved out of the botia classification but is often still advertised as a botia. This is a somewhat aggressive species. I have 10 of them in a 125 gallon with 4 Syncrossus hymenophysa, s...

Pearl or purple danio?

I purchased 17 danios under the name pearl Danios a few days ago. I thought they were mislabeled and were really purple passion danios. But after looking at some pictures and looking at the fish I have I'm not sure what they are. Does anyone know how to tell if a fish is a pearl or purple passion da...

I use Pothos on my 125 gallon just like you said, drilling a hole in the plastic and hanging it in. I have several windows around the tank so it gets alot of indirect light so this works great for me. I have also placed this plant completely under water and had it sprout new leaves and grow through ...

Well I'm sorry to say that my SAE died just days before the RTS was to be moved into the tank with him. He was 4 or 5 years old and had slowed down quite a bit over the past 6 months. However the RTS is doing well is my Syncrossus loaches and the Arulius barbs. He swims mid level of the tank and kin...

If you get just about any barbs i'd get a good sized group 8+ or else they may nip/chase other fish. If you like Tigers do a little research on black ruby barbs. The females look like tigers and the males can look fantastic. They could be hard to find though. Harlequins and Hachetts should also be i...

I keep a combination of Siamese Algae Eaters and Bristle Nose Plecos to keep my algae in check.

I'm not an expert on plecos but I know that many types don't really eat much algae. Or only eat it when they're young.

We will see how he does with the SAE. If it doesn't work the SAE will go back to the 75 gallon. I have 10 Syncross Berdmorei and 4 S. Hymenophysa.

I'll let ya'll know in a couple weeks how it turns out.
