Re: What about Botia almorhae and striata in the same tank ?
I've had yoyos in with striatas before and they got along ok. But I'm getting the point of not liking yoyos as much in recent years because they can be pushy pigs. They can have extremely beautiful patterns when they are adults though. I second the idea of adding more striata but another small peace...

I carried an 8x2x2 tank with one friend about 8 years ago. That was the height of my workout
days and there is no way I could do it now haha. Get 4 people!

Re: New to Keeping Loaches, Buying a New Aquarium
20 to 30 gallons is too small for yoyo's for sure but I agree that sids would be ok however they're hard to find and expensive. Personally I would go up to a 40 gallon breeder tank which gives you a big footprint. This gives you more surface area on top for gas exchange and more room on the bottom w...

Re: Too many fish in my tank? Clown Loaches always hiding.
I picked up 5 balas for my 240 gallon 8 foot tank and they quickly grew to over a foot each. If I didn't
slowly approach the tank they would take off like crazy and ping pong off the walls

Re: Best Algae Eater for My Tank?
A couple of otto cats would be what I would use for a tank that size. Maybe an amano shrimp or two but they wont clean the glass.

Re: Issues with Ich - Please help!
I hate to be the one to say it but you have some stocking issues with that tank. The dojo loaches are a cooler water fish and will get to be quite large. The Kuhli loach would like some more friends as would the neon tetras but the tank is already overstocked. There is no room for any pleco in that ...

I voted for Kubs but Histironicas are probably my favorite. Too bad it's rare to find them where I live..

Re: Tank for YOYO loaches?
I always recommend some kind of plant in every tank. The benifits can't be really ignored. I usually put java moss, java ferns, various anubis or anacharis in most of my tanks because they are all super hardy and require very little light to survive. I live in a pretty hot area so I really can't hav...

Re: Tank for YOYO loaches?
Yoyo's get up to 4 inches pretty quickly and can top out around 6 inches if they are lucky. I think anything less than a 125 and you will have to upgrade at some point. Of course you could cut the number down and go with a 75 if needed. I've always tended to overstock my tanks but have finally learn...

Re: Botia striata in large groups
I have 10-12 I think in a 40 gallon breeder tank with a few rummy nose tetras and they are doing fine. The tank probably isnt big enough for them to "school" but for a time I had them in a more aggressive loach 8 foot tank and they would travel around in a nice pack for protection. I've never had mu...

Re: Do horseface loaches really do best in groups?
I have two in my 75 gallon and one is out quite a lot and the other I rarely see any more. They would rest
next to each other quite often and I have never see any aggression between them.

Re: Corydoras Pygmaeus & external filter
I bought one rated for a much higher filter than suggested so it doesnt clog fast at all. Before I found this I had a regular sponge attached over my normal intake and that got to the point I had to clean it every 3 days which prompted me to looks for a better solution. Another reason these are grea...

Re: Corydoras Pygmaeus & external filter
If you are at all concerned about it I would highly recommend these intake sponges. I put one on my panda tank and it saved my fry from being sucked up by the filter. I can't recommend them strongly enough. Filter-Max Pre-Filter : http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid...

Re: Loach Recommendations for Beginners?
Striata or Kubatai are a bit bigger than sids but are generally cheaper and more readily available.
6-8 of them should be fine if you watch the water changes. Good luck with your tank, you
definately came to the right place.

Re: Amazing Cardinals
I'm sorry for your loss . Here are my 2 cents : I've found that more sensitive fish(any fish really) do much better in planted tanks than unplanted tanks. Now, I won't build a tank without some live plants, even if it's just java moss. I have a group of 8 rummy nose that have been together for 5-6 y...
