Re: will clowns eat from my fingers?
I think the problem is that the betta is a messy eater, so the clowns don't have to come to my fingers, they can just scarf up what's flying around. And man, scarf it up they do. They're stripey aqua vacuum cleaners

will clowns eat from my fingers?
I have five clowns, and all eat ravenously -- but not from my fingers. They just won't. The kuhlis come right up of course, and the betta (much to my surprise, as I'm not very experienced with bettas and tossed him in, hoping for the best, when a coworker lost interest in him in a bowl on her desk)....

cancel the panic
As usual, this morning I unlocked the office door but left the lights off, so I could admire the aquarium -- with its light on a timer, it's dramatic with the fishtank the only light in the room. To my surprise and consternation, the tank was dark this morning, although the lightswitch wasn't turned...

Re: Favorite Loach
Hi Sarahrah -- If you don't have netting over the intakes for your UG filter, chances are good your kuhlis have gotten in. On the bright side, kuhlis not only survive underneath UG filter plates, but they'll even breed in there, although yours sound too young yet. When you get a different filter, do...

Re: farlowella catfish
I've tried but can't get the farlows to eat from my hand or the hemostats, not for algae wafers, zucchini or Nori, all of which they eat on their own (I put the Nori in a mesh bag.) The kuhlis nibble at bloodworms if I hold still for awhile, and the seriously misnamed angelfish ATTACK my fingers eve...

kuhli pictures
One of the kuhlis parked right up against the front of the tank long enough for some pictures before doing fast-forward squiggles from floor to top in one front corner of the tank. (I tried catching that but all I got was bits and pieces of him.) http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy276/possumlady/k...

Re: farlowella catfish
These farlows are seriously competing with my beloved kuhlis for Favorite Fish. They don't have flashy colors and happy, high-energy personalities like the kuhlis, but they don't hide (deliberately) and it truly doesn't seem to stress them to hold them. When I do my weekly cleaning, I gently work my...

Starsplitter -- Do you have any pictures of your snails now? A horned snail? I haven't added snails because I just haven't seen any cute enough.
Cider -- THANKS, I'll add a clip for zucchini, lettuce and spinach to the driftwood on my list for PetSmart this weekend.

Re: farlowella catfish
Wow, I admire you for going through all this to let people see and enjoy your fish.
I'd be a mess, I'd have to camp right beside the tank for the entire 11 days
What kind of snails do you have?

Re: farlowella catfish
I tried netting them out of the bag to put them in the tank, but was afraid of hurting them, so I reached in and yes, they just let me pick them up one at a time and put them in the tank. No struggle, no attempt to get away from my hand. I was a bit alarmed at this, but they seem to be acting all ri...

Re: farlowella catfish
I found this site: http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Farlowella which says, "Twig catfishes require clean water with high dissolved oxygen content. Twig catfish are often lost without enough greens to feed upon." I'll get another bubble wand while I'm at the lfs, too. They definitely do eat th...

Re: farlowella catfish
Won't they eat the algae wafers? I'm also soaking some Indian Almond leaves for them. I'll get them a piece of driftwood, and stop scrubbing the algae off everything like I've been doing. Now I'm kinda scared, I don't want for them to starve.
