When I first found this site I would lose 1 loach a week. That's one of the reasons I have too many now. I have learned with time and GREAT advise from LOL members; 1. Try not to buy Mega-chain store fish (WaXXXXX) 2. Make sure the tank is cycled, all my tank have two HOB filters, when starting a ne...

Orphan Sid

While visiting one of my Favorite LFS, I finally broke down and was ready spend the $23 each for three Sids. When I got there the LFS staff had moved them to a different tank and I could find only one. I think, IMHO, the oversized Pleco ate them. Since he looked so lonely I had to take the remaining...

My Clown Loach tank has multiple sized loaches from 8" to 1". The little ones get crowded out once in a while when feeding on live worms, but most of the time the larger ones wait til the food settles to the bottom and smaller ones feed in mid to upper levels. Other than that they get along just fin...

OK one more question before I give up this idea. What if the Clowns are bigger than the Parrots? The Clowns are 5-6 inches and Parrots are 3-4 inches. No Discus....

I am bumming, none of my local Petsmarts have Sids. So far they have had Clowns (light colored ones, come to think about it, several LFS now carry yellowish than orange Clowns, and they are not sick in fact the LFS's I frequent treat them), Kubatai's and Dojo's.

Hi Emma, I didn't see your reply til just now. You must've posted while I was posting earlier. I think I will use both ideas. Set up the 20 gal as a back up in something goes wrong and slowly start removing gravel from one side. There are artificial caves on both sides. Thank you both of you. :D :D

Thanks TammyLiz I think your right, after watching the Blood Parrots in the quarentine tank and noticing how all the otherwise healthy new Clowns have frayed tail fins. I think the Parrots will go with the other Cichlids. My wife thought it would be cool because the display aquarium at a LFS has var...

Red Parrot Cichlids with Clowns and Discus

Now one of my LFS has Blood Parrot Cichlids with larger 5-6" Clowns and they seem fine. Since my wife wants some Blood Parrots, I was thinking of setting up a tank with Clowns, Discus and Large Clowns. I know Discus are jumpy but these have been living with the Clown for over six months. I gues I am...

That's what I was afraid of. I think I better get a little more prepared. Last month I tried to create another clown loach tank. I took six clowns from our bed room tank, remember the over crowded one. Well long story short tank came down with ICK and all the fish died :( So I cleaned it out and tur...

"Gravel Change" any recommendations on procedure

Need some ideas on the best way to change my tank to a finer gravel without upset my loaches. I am pretty sure my best option is to move them all and clean the tank completely. Any other alternatives you can recommend.

Thanks, I thought I had covered enough of the tank but he got out. Makes me a lil paranoid about my big clown tank. There are several gaps in the back of the tank.
