Sorry about the lack of updates recently, grad school has really been rough these past few weeks. The kids are doing great now, they're all up to around 1/2 inch with some getting even larger than that. They keep growing so fast, it's amazing.

Weekly update on the babies! They're now 21 days old, and becoming much stronger swimmers. They've also reached 1cm in length. Continuing to switch them over to slightly coarser food--still hesitating a bit to try baby brine shrimp.

Well, looking at the 16 different kinds of fish food I have scattered around my house, it appears that all of them have about 3-5% fat content. It seems like the main deal is the protein content (around 30-40%). How much protein is in the catfud?

I have no idea how many there are! Too many to count... I'd guess at least 100, possibly more like 150 or so. In addition to them being so little, they never stop moving, so I can't get a close count...

It seems like the vast majority are gonna be natural color, but there are a few golden ones ...

As promised, here are the fry at 13 days old. And as promised, the pictures are really crappy... I apologize, doing what I can with what I have. If you look closely, you can see fins, and that they sure have the dojo loach shape by now.

I've kept weather loaches since I was about 13 years old. They're not just your average fish to me--I train them to eat out of my hand and come to be petted. It really doesn't take much training. They have as much personality as oscars ...

We had a bit of a crisis yesterday; the leftover egg yolk in the tank developed a fungus. We had to move all the babies one by one into a temporary holding tank to clear out the fungus. Here's a picture of them, about 2 days old, in the holding container.

The fry are doing remarkably well! They're developing some color, and their dorsal fins are now visible. Unfortunately, they're only 4mm long and still mostly translucent, so they don't show up well on camera. I'll have to wait for them to be visible before I can post more pictures. At the rate they ...

Looks like the egg yolk got them through the night. They're just as active as ever, bouncing up and down every little while. Some of the first-hatched already have visible backbones and miniature dorsal fins.

What still bewilders me is the time it took for them to hatch. I read a couple of accounts ...

I guess what's known about dojo loach hatching is wrong. Just checked, and they're already hatching. Looks like precisely 36 hours from when we saw the parents spawning. We're not really prepared to feed them yet--stuff still in the mail. Gonna try to put some dissolved egg yolk in there ...

At noon today, I noticed that our dojo loaches were behaving oddly. After a few moments of observation, I realized that they were spawning!
