Re: How to teach (hillstream) loaches to eat veggies?

Also, do you have any piggy fish you can temporarily put in the tank? My hillstreams will try anything the botias are clicking around.

Re: Niwaella Delicata

I know about you, Odyssey. Your posts about the Niwaella are what made me go looking for them. I was very lucky to find them. The person I got them from wants to try breeding them as a replacement for weather loaches because weather loaches will soon be illegal to have in New York. Were you ever abl...

Re: Niwaella Delicata

Pretty much the same as hillstreams. They need cooler water (I keep mine at 74, which is on the higher end of their spectrum, I think) and a faster flowing, highly oxygenated current. I don't have a river setup for them or anything, but I have two emperor 400s, a bubble curtain, and a powerhead to k...

Re: Niwaella Delicata

Put them in the big tank. They don't seem like cave fish. They're shoving themselves up in the crinum leaves, following a dojo loach as he does his laps, and coming to investigate as I trim the plants. Definitely not shy, and they're eating everything I put in for them. Wish I had room for about 40 ...

That's a lot faster than I would have expected.

Re: Niwaella Delicata

They don't hold still. Like ever. Up here, down there, what's over there, lap time! I'm used to loaches being mostly lazy with some active time in between, but these guys NEVER sit still. Peek at you! http://i.imgur.com/0kfFZLYl.jpg One of the babies http://i.imgur.com/tDGzD2Kl.jpg The biggest one- ...

Re: Niwaella Delicata

After some delay, I finally got them in today! Going to have to wait for an opportune moment for pictures though. The little buggers won't hold still. Probably better anyway though; they're still pale from being shipped. It's odd. They're like dojo loaches, but the size of kuhlis. The largest one is...

Re: ID this loach

The body looks Schistura-ish to me, but I can't see anything on the website that looks like it. Very, very cool looking though...we should call them dirty loaches.

Re: To buy more loaches or not? Advice please.

Sell the clown loach. You'll get a good bit of money for a decent sized one. Then get yourself a little school of kubotais or histrionicas. They stay a bit smaller than the yoyos and don't have the reputation for aggression. Of course, having said that, I know nothing about angelfish...maybe they do...

Niwaella Delicata

I'm getting a shipment of these in on Tuesday! So excited! I've researched them on the internet and here on the site and forums of course. Has anyone in the US gotten these? I'd like to hear more about their behavior. There isn't much written about group size.

I'll post pictures when they come in.

What is wrong with this Hillstream?

Just getting over my worm adventure, I wasn't in a hurry to get more fish, but I had been on the waiting list for these guys for some time. I have 2 sewellia sp. 'spotted' in a 10 gallon cycled quarantine tank. They just came in from overnight shipping this morning. They were pale on top, pink on th...

Caves and Carrots (IMG Heavyish)

So I wanted to post something happy since I'm going through this stressful de-worming process, which is almost done! First of all, I boiled the heck out of a carrot, stabbed it with a fork several times, and sank it in my tank. This was the result: http://i.imgur.com/vWivsqpl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/...

Re: Kuhli in small tank

That I'm not really sure of. I just switched my tank to 100% plants. My nitrates have gone down about 10ppm, and I don't have a dissolved oxygen test. It's only been a week or two as well. I know plants help; I just don't know how much. It's part of the reason why the inch per gallon rule is a bit f...
