Re: Denison's barbs & 4ft tank - big enough??
I've got a 304 on my 65 gallon which is not enough on its own. To make up for it, I also run got two powerheads - a Maxijet 900 with a prefilter with an air diffuser and a good sized Koralia. I lost some of mine when the filter got clogged and I didn't have extra oxygen in the tank - now I always le...

Re: Denison's barbs & 4ft tank - big enough??
I think a 4' long tank is fine, but not open top - I expect they would jump - they certainly splash when startled. My full size ones are not safe with anything smaller than a really big white cloud - anything smaller is looked on as dinner. Keep no less that 3 - more is preferred. I find they behave...

Re: Anyone have info on a dario dario ?
I have 7 scarlet badis - I think a mix of male and female but not sure. I've only had them a few months but they are lovely with lots of personality. Mine only eat live food and occasionally frozen food. They are tiny little patient hunters. I wouldn't keep them with fry that would fit in their mout...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank
I have only ever used dried fallen oak leaves that I've collected in the fall and from a source that I know is pesticide free - I also would not use anything that had been under the snow and decomposing. It is my experience that my cherries graze on the leaves (I put 2 or 3 in a 5 gallon) until they...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank
Hi there - For the foam prefilter, I just use a sponge a bit longer the the intake grill and slide it on - I have never tied it on, it just stays there. Don't get anything too dense / fine a foam as it will get clogged - just a regular aquaclear sponge will work great. That's great that the fish are...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank
Beautiful pictures of the shrimp. Regarding your concerns about the intake, I keep a foam with an X cut into it over my filter intake - acts as a prefilter and keeps shrimp and little fish safe. I would assume that your fish will eat any shrimp fry - assuming that the the adults are too big. I find ...

Re: Markings on juvenile puntius denisonii
Thanks very much Martin - those are interesting articles. I really appreciate you digging them up. Puntius denisonii fry have vertical black bars that fade out as they age http://www.fishesninverts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/puntius_denisonii_15_days_fry.jpg and the ones in the store had le...

Markings on juvenile puntius denisonii
I was planning on buying a red line barb to add to my little school - I have discovered they behave very badly as a pair, and am getting my group back up to 4. A local shop had very young ones - perhaps 2" long or so. Their markings were different than I am used to seeing, and I suspect that they ar...

Re: Cold water fish suggestions
As already mentioned, the rosy reds would work and there is always white clouds - I think rosy reds are good to 10c or so. The challenge with them is that they've been treated as feeders, so they often aren't in great health when you get them.
They are colourful though.

Check to see whether you can see any wormy shaped white threads in the shrimp - I've seen some at the chain stores with this parasite. If they have them, you would probably want to keep them isolated until they pass he parasite, then, from the info here, you're good to go. http://www.petshrimp.com/d...
