Oh my, it turns out the filter had died! I didn't notice this at first because of the aeration she has in there; it was still giving lots of water movement. I'm not sure how long it had been out for (possibly 3 weeks!). But I did a thorough water change and set up a working filter. There was so much...

"fuzzy little dots" in tank,Looks like pants fuzz

My sister-in-law is in Germany for six weeks and her mother is staying at her place. I went over to check on her fish (her mom just feeds them) and noticed in her 30 gallon (which is home to two 2''convicts and two 3'' Four-lined pimelodus) that there are all of these little white, circle shaped thi...

All the water tests are normal, and all the electrical seems to be good.

If it was an electrical problem, wouldn't the other fish be experiencing the same sort of thing?

My Pictus cats seem to be having "siezures"

I have 4 pictus cats in a 50 gallon. They're only about 2 inches right now. They currently live with a school of 8 small ruby barbs, 1 small rainbow shark, 1 L-114 and 4 Green Tiger loaches. All fish are small and I'm just housing these guys in this tank until I can add them to my 320. All of the fi...

I have a L-114 and a L-52. My L-52 seems to be pretty good with algae, because his tank never seems to have any in it. I also have a L-114. He is about 3 inches at the moment and he is currently housed in a 20 gallon with 5 green tiger loaches (I'm waiting for all of them to grow so I can add them t...

My plan for my 320g tank(comments & suggestions apprecia

I'm going to be setting up a 320 gallon tank(was going to get a 200, but $$$ wise the 320 was more bang for my buck). I don't have the tank yet, but it has been ordered and should be ready in 2-3 mths. For tank inhabitants I was hoping on: -2 Four-lined pimelodus -5 Pictus Cats -1 Red Tailed Shark -...

I have no idea how he would have gotten into the filter, the intake looks waaaaay to small. I did a check of the filter and didn't see him.

However, there are again 4 loaches. The little Houdini decided to reappear. It's a relief, but I'm still confused.

Are Green Tiger Loaches(Syncrossus hymenophysa) jumpers?

I picked up 4 of these little guys last night from my LFS. I plan on getting more at a later date. I set them up in a 10 gallon quarantine tank (they're about 1 inch) with some aeration and a few little hidey areas. Before I went to bed last night everyone was doing fine. I checked on them before I ...

Moving soon...how to safely move my fish as well?

We're moving into our house next month, and with that my fish need to come with me. I currently have a 55, 50 and 70 gallon...soon more. All tanks are stocked with fish. (Tanganyikans, Community tank and Malawi, respectively). Will I have to cycle the tanks again once I move them? I have a system in...

I think my sister in-law has a dying Oscar :(

She has had this Oscar for about 6 years. She is about a foot long and refuses to eat anything but Spirulina sticks. She has tried feeder goldfish, guppies, trout pellets, bottom feeder pellets, shrimp pellets, frozen food....you name it, and all she will eat is the Spirulina sticks. Now the Oscar h...

I've read lots of places that Jack Dempsys make good tank mates for Oscars, but my sister in-law had a Dempsey with her Oscar and he bullied the poor guy like crazy. The Dempsey spent a long time hiding in a corner behind a rock, the second he/she would move the Oscar would chase it back. She ended ...

How fast do clown loaches grow?

I'm going to have a 200 gallon tank shortly, and I'd like to get some of these guys. I can probably get them around the 2 inch size, and I'm thinking of starting them in a 55 ( I anticipate their tank mates being larger than them when I first get them...) How long can I expect it to take them to get...
