Yo-Yo Loach and Leaf Fish

Hello All, Does anyone know if Yo-Yo loaches are posionous? Trying to solve the mystery of who ate who and what killed what. I leave my juvenile fish in a 5 gallon tank until they get big enough to fend in the 40 gallon and later moved to a 75 gallon. My juvenile leaf fish and my yo-yo loach where i...

That was a great link...Thanks!! Unfortunately he did die a few days ago. I think I will stay away from tetracycline for now on. I had a case of popeye on a leaf fish and a this case on the bichir. Quarentine and tetracycline were not the answers. Hopefully this won't happen again but I will try the...

Polypterus senegal senegalus is the latin name. Careful in medicating how? Dangerous or ineffective? He is a really cool species so I would love to keep him alive. Thanks for the reply

Albino Bichir Sick

I have an albino bichir who has developed a pencil eraser sized ulcer on his back. White in the middle and a thin dull red along the edges. I believe what might have happened is he got light burned. There are several floating plants near the surface and he often parks himself in them but on one part...

Possible Popeye?

Looks like my South American Leaf Fish has come up with a case of popeye. It is a new addition to my 40 Gal and has been with me for about a month now. Earlier in the week it was eating when food was availible and definately not starved and hiding like it always does amongst the plants. Last night I...

I am quite amazed at how hardy she is. I will try the food block suggestion but 8 - 10 ghost shrimp and a sprinkle of blood worms and she is good for two weeks probably even more. Since the first posting I expanded the collection of oddballs with a albino bichir and it too is incredibly hardy. I hon...

Thanks for the Replies!!

Honestly I did not want her to learn that either. I was very worried leaving her for two weeks with just blood worms and thought hunger might peak her curiosity and then she would take a bite out of a tankmate. She is currently on a diet of bloodworms once a week and plenty of ghost shrimp walking a...

Peacock Eel Feeding

I recently purchased a plump peacock eel about 5" long. I am going out of town for two weeks. Salesman at the pet store who has never steered me wrong said I would be okay putting 1/2 oz of live bloodworms in the tank and leaving her (peacock) for two weeks. Her diet in the store was bloodworms. Her...
