Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
I bought a little manual pepper grinder and put high quality sinking wafers and protein crumble into it, and set the grinder to a medium grind setting and ground some food up. I have now found that if I grind it into a container (that has a lid), and add some tank water, I can then shake the contain...

Re: My Clowns are FIGHTING! =(
If you aren't going to be using your old tank soon, I would put all the stuff in your old tank into the new tank. Move everything (maybe not the gravel, unless you want it in your new tank). All those plastic plants and terracotta pots and every bit of graval has good bacteria living on them, and wi...

Re: Hillstream Riparium
Personally, I really like the idea. But with a coffee table/tank you need to decide if you want it to be mostly a table, or mostly a tank. How are you going to light the tank up to encourage the plants and algae to grow in the tank? How are you going to get electricity to the tank? If table: are you...

Re: Patchy disease in Hillstreams
I know this is an older thread, but I want to point out to local Australians that I have had success in purchasing Maracyn (Erythromycin) and Maracyn-Two (minocycline) through Ebay. It made it through in the post without a problem and I now have them ready for when I purchase my next 'borneo-suckers...

Re: Botia Kubotai
Here in Brisbane, Australia, the Kubotai are hard to find and normally go from AUD $30 to $50 each. --- That's $26-45 USD The same goes for Dwarf Chain loaches and Striata, Histrionica and Rostrata ---- all hard to find and expensive if you find them. Fortunately they can occasionally be found in gr...

Re: P.myersi spawning
Why not get some shallow kitchen plastic containers and put various sized gravel in them, and bury them in the areas where they were trying to spawn. Then the fish will have various size gravel to chose from.

Danios: the larger Giant Danio, or leopard / zebra danios.
Rainbow fish: either Australian rainbow fish (there are soooo many varieties), or the New Guinea/Asian Rainbow fish (again, lots of varieties)

Re: Sewellia young
I've never seen my spotted Sewellia spawn. I've only ever seen the lineolata spawn. My fry survive easily in the HOB filter and I have a heap of gravel and pebbles of various sizes (and green beard algae) in the tank that the eggs and fry can survive amongst. I really need to separate my spotted fro...

Re: New Hillstream loaches.
I saw a good dozen of those hypergastromyson species at a fish store near by, but didn't buy them because I didn't have a tank set up ready for them. Maybe I should go back and get them since they might feed okay on live food ( which is easier to provide that lots of algae). Can you provide us with ...

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
You can make a trap using Zucchini as bait (if they eat zucchini - mine do, and this is a trap that I've used). Get softdrink bottles. Cut them carefully where the neck of the bottle meets the main part of the bottle. This neck can be turned around back inside the bottle, and hopefully it will fit s...

Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
My sewellia are all in a species only tank. So they aren't mixed with botia loaches. I have seen my fry grow up in other community tanks, and those sewellia haven't bothered any of the yoyo loaches, clown loaches or kuhli loaches that they shared the bottom with. My recommendation would be to get so...

Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
I haven't noticed any real aggression that would have required fish to be removed. Some of the juveniles will try and boss the adults around, but the adults just ignore them. The Lineolata are probably a little more boisterous in their chasing, maybe like a small dog can get carried away. The bigger...

Re: My Sewellia lineolata, sewellia spotted and their FRY
leave your juveniles in the breeding tank as long as possible. My breeding tank is full of good algae and any juveniles I leave in it grow much much faster than the fish I move into holding tanks. The spotted ones take a while to get their spots. I'd have a guess at 4-6 months. They are about the si...

Re: Catching sewellia lineolata fry/juveniles
I use a small, a medium and a large softdrink bottle with the bottle-top end cut off. I also drill lots and lots of holes in the base of the bottles. 3 sizes means i have a choice at which one to use, depending on where the fish are and what obstacles I have in the tank. The holes in the bottle help...
