Fish lice and cycling temps

I have a 55g tank that previously housed a couple of goldfish. I gave the goldfish away to a friend, with the intention of setting that tank up as a(nother) loach tank (hehe!).Before I got the heater in, my sister brought home a large ryunkin goldfish from our local fish club, not realizing I'd gott...

Re: Metronidazole Advice?

Sorry I can't be of help on the metronidazole issue- never used it. However, I am just about to treat some skinny little b. rostratas with leavmisole hcl. I read that you should treat once, then once again a week later (and even once again in a month to cover your bases) to destroy any worms that ha...

Prime is known to cause a "false positive" reading for ammonia especially with API tests (so I've heard). Try waiting 24+ hours after a water change, re-test, and see if the ammonia is still at .25. If it is then you may actually have ammonia in the tank, but there's a good chance since it's happeni...

What type of loaches do you keep? Many are snail eaters, but some less so than others. I would imagine this is true within each species from one fish to another as well...Perhaps yours have never come across snails or just haven't developed a taste for escargot yet.... Or maybe they prefer the food ...

I've got the same type of fish, and the same question! When I got him he was skinny and I thought for sure it was H. Smithi, but after having the fish for several months it's fattened up and now its fins just barely touch, so I've decided it's probably H. tweediei. I'm trying to get my hands on more...

16 gallons is pretty small for most loaches. You could have a couple of dwarf chain loaches but they''re happier in bigger groups. Maybe kuhlies- better to have a number of them too, but I think you could have a few in a 16 gallon. In my experience they aren't out and about as much as some other typ...

If you like the botia type loaches I'd recommend botia striata! I'd wouldn't get less than 5 of them, because they can be aggressive- it's best to spread out the "picking order," so nobody gets chased too much. They should get along fine with your yoyos, and should be able to hold their own. I think...
