Re: Subdued Lighting for a non-planted tank...how?

Ok, well maybe I should buy more duckweed and try again. Maybe the silver dollars will graze on it too. Thanks again.

Re: confessions and aspirations of a lazy fishkeeper

Hi. My disclaimer on the following is that I've never actually tried filling CHLORINATED water directly from the faucet though I read it has been done by pouring dechlorninator in at the same time. Cold water won't be heated fast enough by the heater. I fill directly from tap to tank because I'm lu...

Re: Subdued Lighting for a non-planted tank...how?

Hi Glenna.

Yep, totally non plant. I supplement for the silver dollars. Floating duckweed is a good idea. But I still bet I need strong lighting even for that.

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

Thanks, Dave.

I'm still thinking about adding just one more. The one I have now is just starting to get longer than the female cherry barbs. That's how small I purchased it as.

Re: confessions and aspirations of a lazy fishkeeper

Admittance is the first sign of overcoming your problem. LOL I'm lazy too and water changes on my 55 gal got that little bit more involved when we redid the kitchen, changed the faucet and the Python no longer fits on it anymore. So I bought an extra large fill bucket and a sump pump, and I now fil...

Re: POWER OUTAGE BACKUP IDEAS

Glenna you pose some very good ideas. I liked learning about your setup. I too did not feed during the outage. We were lucky that it stayed so cool during the storm week. The tank dropped 6-7 degrees. I did order the power inverter and I will purchase the battery when the inverter arrives. I like t...

Re: POWER OUTAGE BACKUP IDEAS

Well thank you for the valuable information. I'd never heard of rigid board, so I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

My definition of a Flying Fox is simple. The fish that looks like an SAE except it has pale yellow fins and the black stripe along the length of the body stops at the base of the tail rather than continue through the tail fin. I don't know of a F.F. whose black stripe extends into the tail fin.

Re: POWER OUTAGE BACKUP IDEAS

Thank you for your ideas and input. Have you ever heard of using bubble wrap as an insulator?

Thanks again.

Re: Subdued Lighting for a non-planted tank...how?

That's an idea. I have a fake wood cave right now. I used to do the driftwood in the old days. Will make the water more acidic, though, not that that would be a problem with the fish I have. The foil really works, so I just stick to it. Just looking for a different effect I suppose. I should post a...

Subdued Lighting for a non-planted tank...how?

Hi. I'd like to create subdued lighting in my tank in the most cost effective manner. I've put foil under the light strip to drown out some of the light. What about bulbs? Thanks.

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

Hi, yes, mine are the exact same as the above. I have a link at the bottom of my post which shows my SAE. It has the extended black line into the tail fin. So it's not a Flying Fox. I'm debating what I want to do about getting more. It's good to know that I can house a group together. I was thinkin...

Re: POWER OUTAGE BACKUP IDEAS

So, let me share and shed some light on my own question: Well I went to Tractor Supply, they didn't have power inverter kits, so I was suggested to hit an auto store. So, ADAP knew exactly what I was talking about. The inverter kit is 800 amps (or 1200 amps) and I'm going to buy the largest battery...

Re: Just Got a (True) Siamensis

A lot of fish keeper's tanks are overstocked ,but with experience and strict maintenance it can be done ! but if you are new to the hobby then try to stick within the guidelines , with respect if you are asking advice I'd guess you would be overstocked so keep up good maintenance and observation be...
