I have this same problem with a piece of driftwood that has holes drilled in it. my loaches hide in there. One time I was cleaning the tank and I didn't know I had a hitchhiker. skip the gravel and use pool filter sand or a combo of both. Botia Kubotai (polka dot looaches) are great for eating snails in my experience. they also stay a little smaller than the yoyo's. they also tend to be a little more active during the day than my clowns.

My biggest is probably only about 7.5" It is the Alpha in a group of 16. the next largest is only 4.5" though.

modesta's can be kept with clowns. when calling the lfs, ask for redfin or blue botia instead of modesta, it might help you get further. all in all their temperment is a lot like clowns and it will eventually start hanging with them. just get rid of that driftwood, lol, cause it obviously has too ma...

I feed mine 1.5mm slow sinking growth pellets that I order from Kens. i also feed my own frozen food as a treat, along with freeze dried jrill as an occasional treat. I have 16 clowns ranging from 2" to 7.5" and 6. Kubotai at about 1.5"

Something I've learned about clowns is that the bigger the loach the longer it takes it to completely feel at home in a new tank
