Re: Starting over - Chain Loaches

I moved the neons that I already had into the tank. I must say, the effect is delightful! The tank is so full of activity with this new school that the krib would be too much. Once I get the fry net with my male halfmoon betta out, there will be pics. I love photographing them, but the fry net...not...

Re: Starting over - Chain Loaches

I'm still organizing my plants, so no pics just yet. As far as quarantine tanks go, I have a five and a ten ready with filters and heaters whenever I need them. Being prepared is part of the game, right? lol And I counted the loaches while they were sleeping out in the middle of the tank. I'm deligh...

Re: Starting over - Chain Loaches

Well I took in two of the larger gourami and my ram has stopped hiding in the filter! Saddly, it will be a bit longer before I can add any ditherfish. The neon tetra that I was looking to buy came down with ich over the weekend. (When the store is closed)I may pick them up later this week if they im...

Re: Starting over - Chain Loaches

Funny enough, my experience was that Striata grew faster than my Histrionica. My Striata were all 3.5-4 inches and started at 2-2.5 when I bought them a year ago. But it took two years for my Histrionica to match them. My betta is getting along well with the gourami, but my ram hates them. I haven't...

Starting over - Chain Loaches

I've had my 60gal for around 2 years now and have a decent group of loaches that I am quite fond of. My problem is that I am looking to move into a second story apartment soon and want a smaller, more manageable aquarium. My father has generously offered to trade his 40gal acrylic tank for my 60gal ...

Re: Looking to Identify loaches, also advice

They certainly look like rostrata in your video. I was concerned that I had purchased one by accident last year, so I found myself looking at their photos rather often. The double striping on their sides are very defined. A very attractive fish, but like you said, a bit big.

What, no photos? I'd love to see this fish. Cave fish are generally white or tranucient, it would be interesting to see that on a loach :D

Re: Histrionica no longer available?

Good to hear they are still out there! Mine were listed as golden zebra loaches (not to be mistaken with zebra loaches: botia striata). I want to avoid shipping. My tank is only so big and I don't want another mystery loach like my last one. Looked just like histrionics for about 4 months then provi...

Histrionica no longer available?

I purchased 4 histrionica last year and lost one over the summer after a power outage. I would love to get more, but I haven't seen them for sale anywhere since I bought out the store last year. I asked the owner (my boss) if we would be getting any more, but he said no. A quick search online proved...

Botia Fry?

The lfs that I work at received a shipment of 6" Clown Loaches about a month ago. The other day one of my co-workers noticed a pair of fry and moved them to another tank. The tank with the Clown Loaches has no other fish. I took a look at the fry today and noticed that they can't be Clown Loach fry,...

Re: Aggressive Rostrata?

Frustratingly, he is the only Rostrata. When I bought him he looked like a young Kubotai. I was sure that I would be able to pick up some friends for him within a month as Kubotai are readily available at Petsmart now. Well...he ended up being a Rostrata and I haven't seen another since. The same th...

Aggressive Rostrata?

I had a spot of trouble this morning with my Rostrata. He's about 3" now and has always been a bit... rambunctious. He will often snatch the food away from other fish like they aren't there and get much too close for the liking of my more retiring fish. This morning however, was very unusual for him...

Re: Unsure what this behavior means

Awe, they like each other! How big are they? You never know, they may be trying to breed. The only time I've seen that behavior in fish is when there are males courting a female. If your loaches are sexually mature, then that very well may be it.

Re: Need help for a Biotope!

I just remembered that he is interested in representing the Mekong in a couple of the tanks. Maybe a group of Sids?
