Ah!! It was the impellor shaft. It's snapped. Luckily, the shop I bought it from are very nice people and will be sending me a brand new filter whilst collecting the old one So that's always wicked news
I bought myself a brand new 2213 canister filter to replace my old internal filter YIPPEE!! :D When I first hooked it up and turned it on there were no issues. I turned it off to carry out some maintenance that same day but when it was turned back on the damn thing rattled and whirred like a bugger....
That sounds like a much better idea than what I did
It's all been done now though and so far no casualties. I won't ever be doing it again though
I've got an after picture if you would like to see.
Well, it's finally done :D The water is still cloudy as hell but hopefully it should clear up. Once I come back from holiday in a week i'll get some new filter bits, clean the filter and glass so the tank should hopefully look spiffin'!! Also gonna purchase some malaysian trumpet snails so the sand ...
I am currently half-way through replacing my gravel with sand, and so far; I have found it more stressful than moving with an aquarium. I have read plenty about how to do it but, in practice, it's a thousand times more difficult than I ever expected. Gravel is so filthy!!! There is literally I did o...
I don't think I would risk a harsh treatment just yet. If they are eating a little bit then maybe you should wait a little while, I'd wait a week (maybe even 2), to see if things get any worse or better. I wouldn't want to risk it. If they still aren't eating and the goldfish are still flashing a lo...
When I said internal parasite before, I meant internal bacteria, sorry about that  There could be few reasons for their behaviour. The well water might be a problem, there maybe all kinds of leachate in your water, but I suspect that if it was an issue, the goldfish would be suffering too. As ...
I would have guessed some kind of internal parasite. I think it's very odd for Dojo loaches to be ill. I have kept three for 6-7yrs and never had any problems apart from escapees.
If you haven't had them very long, could it possibly be your source? Where are you getting them from?
You'll be pleased to know that I removed the metal wiring a couple of weeks before I introduced the shrimp :D So, here's hoping that any metals that were in the water have been filtered up, or sucked up by the plants. I bought some plastic wire, to replace it, thats's used in garden strimmers. It's ...
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and replying. I know it has been awhile but I have just managed to save up for the new filter. Gonna run them both for a couple of weeks in the tank, then move the sponges to the new filter, before removing the old stingray. Hopefully, should have lovely clear...
I am worried about the bioload I must admit :? But my water quality is fine, no ammonia or nitrites and just a hint of nitrate. That's why I'm a bit confused. If my water quality is fine, then why is it full of suspended solids? And why do my fishes keep acting strange? '' Unfortunately, my ta...
I think it's disgraceful the way people treat aquatic animals. At one of my l.f.s, which is a pets@home, the staff know absolutely nothing about the products they sell. I could literally buy 16 Bala sharks for my 5 gallon tank and none of them would bat-an-eyelash. Also, they have a Blind Cave Tetra...
I have a 'Stingray-15' filter, which I want to replace with a 'Fluval U-1' filter. But how do I do that? I know it takes almost a month for a filter to mature. The Stingray is not doing the job at all. It just simply isn't sucking in any water anymore, yet plenty is being distributed from the top; w...
Yeah I do. thats why I was only gonna get one but if they need to be in groups of 5 then obv. I can't get them. Which is a shame because they do look really nice.
Oh and yeah I was talking about the B.stratia... if thats how its spelt.
