Re: Any Loach or Fish Pathology Researchers Out There?
There isn't much in the tank ever since the bala shark literally jumped ship (he'd jumped out 2-3 times before when I was cleaning the tank, but this time he squeezed out the canopy when I wasn't there). I have a black hairy algae problem I've not been able to get rid of, hoping the pleco can help m...

Any Loach or Fish Pathology Researchers Out There?
I ask because my 90g is now down to one clown loach, turning 22 this year, and I'm sure he's lonely. But I've tried for years to add more loaches to his tank. Every single one has died. Even ones I transferred into the tank after keeping them for months prior in a smaller tank. The only fish that li...

Re: Clown Loaches now 29 years of age.
Wow congrats. My one remaining clown loach turns 22 this year. He's got cataracts but otherwise seems in fine shape. He's pretty much had every disease out there.

Re: Orion Joins the 20+ Club
Huh, interesting. Orion grew up with another bigger and fatter clown, so he was always on the smaller, less chunky side. He also wasn't the dominant. I tend to think male in that case but who knows!

Re: Orion Joins the 20+ Club
I don't actually know if he's male or female, I never could tell, but here he is happy with his algae frisbee. (Apologies for the dirty glass/tank :D) https://scontent-lga3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/141100693_10104127361616136_7353471104609109024_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=2&_nc_sid=8bfeb9&_nc_ohc=Byi4YW--...

Orion Joins the 20+ Club
My last remaining clown loach, Orion, turned 20 years old this year. Bought him when he was a wee thing in 2001 and had him ever since. Even flew him on an airplane from Alaska to Pennsylvania when I moved. His eyes are clouded from a previous disease but otherwise looks good. Will get a picture but...

Re: Loach River Tank (Mostly) Complete!
Good information to bear in mind--thank you! For now, I'll see if I can pull the taller plants to the back to mimic weedy shallows near the bank, and get more anubias to drop in the front. The wendtiis are old stock from the previous setup, and I don't have another larger freshwater tank for them so...

Loach River Tank (Mostly) Complete!
Spent 6-7 hours breaking down and draining my 90 gallon, which was in a very bad way. Completely rebuilt it using Martin's manifold design, and voila: brookstream for the clowns! Well, I like to think that's what it is now. What do you think: anything I can do to improve this setup? The pumps are a ...

Re: New Blue Loach and Community Tank
I have a 90g tank with all sorts of loaches, as well as 10-11 ottos. I do have one Modesta in with a mix of 8-9 medium to large clowns, and in the months I've had the ottos and the Modesta, I haven't seen any problems. Then again, it is a bigger tank, so there's more room for the fish to knock aroun...

Re: Cross-species socialization (poor lonely blue)
Actually, I have kept modestas with clowns for many years--I had a group of 4 that were around 4" or more, while the clowns ranged from 2"-10" and I have never, ever had a problem with agression between the two species. In fact, when I was down to 1 modesta, it started schooling and begging with the...

Looks like fluid buildup, though I can't be sure of the cause. Dropsy will usually pop out the scales, and I don't see that in your picture. If it's fluid buildup, I believe one way to help relieve that is epsom salt, but you might want to wait for someone else's opinion as I haven't had to treat bl...

I'm not really certain on the driftwood--someone might have better information on that than I do, but I suspect that if its in a treated tank, it won't hold on to the disease after treatment has finished. I haven't had recurrences of ich in the past, at least not ones that closely followed each othe...

In theory. I like this idea - a lot. It is essentially a move to promote proper fish care. However, in practice, what are the chances that a store like Petco will be able to do all that it takes to accomplish this? Are they going to greatly improve and monitor the health of the fish they sell? Are ...
