Dw I found him :( He was inside the large spiral shell in the tank. I had a look in there, but I couldn't see far enough inside. It looks like he crammed himself in there so far he couldn't get out. Broke it open with a hammer and nail, but he was already dead. I guess now I'm going to be VERY caref...
