Re: Help with Goldfish that may be sick

Thank you for your quick and helpful reply Diana! Thanks to you I was able to add some salt last night and, either by consequence or coincidence the larger fish is looking far better! I can't believe the difference in a single day. Most of the white matter is gone and now only the possible "sore" sp...

Help with Goldfish that may be sick

Hello everyone, I inherited four beautiful goldfish from a friend a couple years ago when he could no longer keep them himself. One of them suffered from what appeared to be a genetic mutation or old injury and finally died a couple weeks ago. However, a (seemingly) healthy one died just yesterday o...

Re: regulating Ph

Just do a little research to see.... Thanks for your perspective and help, but all I have currently is capability to measure TDS and pH. I'm curious about the GH and KH, but haven't taken the time or money to find a kit yet. I will be sure to keep this in mind, though, and when I finally do pick up...

Re: regulating Ph

Wow, I had no idea! Thanks for the explanation - guess I won't get rid of the filter then :-)

Re: regulating Ph

I bought a TDS meter on Amazon for $26: http://www.amazon.com/HM-Digital-Handheld-Tester-TDS-3/dp/B000VTQM70 I was surprised to measure my tap water as 80 ppm and filtered water as 90 ppm (with pur 3-stage faucet filter). Makes me wonder if the filter is really worth it. Distilled water measures 10 ...

Re: So sad :(

Wow, it sounds like you've had a traumatic couple months with your poor bettas struggling so much. We're starting to get warmer weather in my area - hopefully things will turn around for you soon if they haven't already! Speaking of temperature changes, how do you keep the temperature stable for you...

Re: My First Fish Show!

Thank you for posting all the pictures! It looks like a really fun opportunity, though I can't imagine leaving a tank there for all that time. Setting it up and doing maintenance must have been tricky, too. Nice that you have such a large, organized club in your area to be able to do these things! I...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank

Just when I was starting to get worried, I finally spotted a fairly large one. If that one's okay, hopefully others are too. These guys are going to give me a heart attack though, haha. There're a couple cave-type areas in my tank that I cannot see into without moving a decoration, which may be the ...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank

Well, potentially sad news: I haven't been able to find a shrimp in a little over a day now. :( Sometimes I've not been able to find more than one, or even any, but then the other day I found all 5 so I wasn't too worried about it at first. I'll think I'll give it another day or two and then try bai...

Re: African Stone Rock Goby (Cameroon)

Thanks for posting your technique! I've often been trying to get a picture in focus and wished I had a manual, but I'll bet you're right and it would be way too slow - my fish always seem to be on the move too.

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank

Thanks for the tips and heads up on the weather :). Perhaps I'll just have to keep a stack of pre-soaked, re-dried leaves on hand and put them in only once the shrimp have hatched. Realistically though the young will probably need the cover for 1-3 months (wild guess) until they get big enough to de...

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank

Thanks Laura and Jim. The dried oak leaves idea sounds much less expensive and quicker to implement than a small breeding tank. Normally I'd have to say oak leaves will have to wait but we just had nearly all our snow melt so I can scrounge some up. Between them, the java moss, and the prefilter I m...

I have to second that - very nice fish and great pictures! Do you have a manual focus? They are so clear!

Re: Tiger shrimp from Jim Powers; my tank

...No problem if they can't pull the roots up. They'll just pull the leaves off. :) But I keep trying.....Our fish club is having a big auction on the 22nd, and I am hoping for some cool shrimp to be on sale. :) Oh no! It sounds like you certainly have a challenge on your hands. Best of luck gettin...
