Re: My First Bowl Show with Pictures

The ghost shrimp are pretty quick on their feet so to speak. Not sure if the red or yellow shrimp are as fast. I may try them next time I sell them on sale.

Re: My First Bowl Show with Pictures

I've had my flower shrimp for several months now since last fall. They are very shy. I also have several ghost shrimp. Two are pregnant (not sure of the scientific term for this) so hopefully there will be babies, though I understand chances are slim, with the pangios and botias around. I was consid...

Re: My First Bowl Show with Pictures

Beautiful .... I love shrimp myself. Is bamboo the same as flower? I have 2 flower shrimp but hardly ever see them except after dark. Last night was the first time I spotted both of them. They must have hated when I shone my flashlight at them. I have a small 10 gallon tank with one assassin snail, ...

Re: please explain dwarf botia behaviour

Thanks for all the great advice. I think a proper QT is my next project. What type of substrate should I be using? Should it be glass or will acrylic do? Right now I have an extra 10g with one assassin snail and 2 amano shrimp as well as a bunch of plants and sand substrate. It could be turned into ...

Re: please explain dwarf botia behaviour

The sids were already marked down from $12.99 to $8.99. I doubt I will pick any up. I don't have a quarantine tank nor am I experienced enough to nurse them back to health. I do applaud your dedication. Thanks for the info. I sent an email to the LFS but never got any reply. I'm not surprised as thi...

Re: please explain dwarf botia behaviour

Unfortunately I only have four of the original six. Two were "killed" by the CAE. I'd love to get more but as mentioned in another post, the current batch at my LFS are sooooo skinny. Is it a good idea to buy them in such a state? Here's a quick video I took. Sorry about the video quality. It's pret...

please explain dwarf botia behaviour

I'm not sure if two of my sids are playing, fighting or flirting. I'm a new loachaholic and would great appreciate insight from experts in this forum.

I apologize for the quality. The video was taken with my iPod Touch. Image

Re: Loaches to keep Histrionicas company?

My histies and sids get along great and seem to play well together. The sids are great little guys and I would get more if I could. Unfortunately the latest batch at my LFS are quite sickly.

Re: how do I catch the skunks!?

I also made the same mistake when buying my sumo loach (Schistura balteata). He turned out to be a real bully and terrorized the rasboras so much they went into hiding at the back of the tank behind some big plants. My husband used the "soda pop" method to catch him though it took quite a few tries....

Re: Histrionica? Rostrata? Something else?

I'd love to have ten as well. They are great little guys (well not so little). Very peaceful and don't mind being chased by others. Gorgeous too. Thanks for the replies! ps. BTW, starsplitter - the sumo that was re-homed is terrorizing his new tank. His tankmates are all much much larger and don't c...

Histrionica? Rostrata? Something else?

This guy was labelled gold zebra loach at Petsmart. I thought he was a histrionica but is now looking more like a rostrata. Or is he something else entirely. Enquiring minds want to know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 3 of these guys and they are the best fish ever ... very peaceful ...

Re: sumo loaches

Unfortunately I don't have another tank to relocate him to. My spare tank has one assassin snail and 4 amano shrimp and maybe some baby ghost shrimp if they have not been eaten. It is also "open concept" which isn't recommended for loaches. I lost one rainbow loach who jumped out and we didn't find ...

Re: sumo loaches

Thanks starsplitter7. We'll put in the driftwood later today and see how it goes. If the sumo is still really aggressive we may have to re-home him. He is still chasing everyone except the zebras and kuhlis. The sids don't seem to mind too much as they l happily go about their business as soon as th...

Re: sumo loaches

Thanks again starsplitter7! Your help is always appreciated. My injured sid is happily recovering. His "eye" looks healed over. He's a feisty fellow. Actually they all have lots of spunk. Same with the sumos. Come to think of it I haven't seen the other two sumos lately. I suspect they may be hiding...
