Re: Sushi seaweed
I used to. The otos really liked it, and it was a great way to keep them fattened up in a tank with very little algae and otos that wouldn't take wafers. I've never had anything else eat it.

Re: Ceramic Bio Beads Fail?
What's your substrate, and how well do you clean it? Any time I have issues with nitrates creeping up and haven't been overfeeding (and I wouldn't count that out; if your fish are still small, you may well be overfeeding them- four cubes a day, which you mentioned as your max, would be WAY overfeedi...

Source for Pangio Myersi?
I have what appears to be a single pangio myersi that came in some regular kuhlis. I set up a tank for it and would like to get more so I have at least a dozen, but I can't seem to find them. My local fish stores haven't been able to order them for me, and I haven't seen them on aquabid, either. Any...

Re: Species choices for river tank setup
Thanks, guys. I'm all set up and just waiting on cycling and algae growth and I still haven't made a decision! I have time, as the tank isn't really scaped (I'm kind of sad at aquascaping) and it'll be a few weeks before I even add the minnows, let alone any loaches, but I may end up deciding betwee...

Species choices for river tank setup
I'm working on a river tank build. My husband did the manifold for me, the power heads just arrived, and right now I'm working on deciding on a substrate. I'm thinking small pebbles on the power head end and sand on the other end, both of which I have, and I've gathered and cleaned the other rocks t...

Re: Weather loaches not getting bigger
I wouldn't worry about oxygen if their breathing isn't fast and they aren't going to the surface.
Oh, I forgot. How big are they?

Re: Weather loaches not getting bigger
There are commercial foods with garlic (New Life Spectrum Thera-A is one), or you can crush up garlic and soak their food in the juice. Odd that your airstones get clogged. Is water going into them or something? If you're using a decent-sized HOB filter with plenty of flow (especially if the water l...

Re: Weather loaches not getting bigger
You could try garlic in their food if you're suspicious about parasites; a lot of people seem to think it helps, and it certainly won't hurt. Also, my dojos hid out a good bit until I picked up some dithers for them and upped the number of hiding spots in their tank. If you've got room, adding some ...

Re: 75g Dojo Tank Setup Advice
So, sand substrate with fluorite underneath, marineland magnum 350 (my first canister, and I'm going to add a HOB filter for some current- also with media from my guppy tank), and have some White Clouds in there now to make sure it's stable (no ammonia or nitrites so far!). Right now I'm pretty much...

Re: 75g Dojo Tank Setup Advice
So, due to space considerations, I'll be getting a 60g tank instead (48x13x23). Can I comfortably keep 4-5 in a tank that size?

Re: 75g Dojo Tank Setup Advice
Excellent! I already have mossballs in one of my guppy tanks, and they largely ignore them, so transferring them over or buying new ones will be no problem. I've never kept floating plants, but I'm excited to try it. How much water flow should I be aiming for? Are areas of fast versus slow current b...

Thanks for the reply!
Oh, I forgot to ask: will the "normal" and gold colored ones socialize together, or should I aim for one or the other?

75g Dojo Tank Setup Advice
Hi! I'm new to loach keeping (other than having kuhlis a VERY long time ago), but I would like to set up a 75g cold water tank dedicated to keeping Dojo loaches. I'm still in the planning phase, so I am trying to come up with the optimal setup. Having read "the weather report," I am definitely going...
