I lost 4 loaches that I purchased recently. I bought 2 large ones and put them in separate tank and after 2 weeks time added another two. 2-3 weeks later I noticed some problems and found that fish have obvious signs of itch. By spawning we actually mean the process of laying eggs. The 'small bulge' is so called papilla or breeding tube.

Thanks for the link but still can't find any information on conditions in their natural habitat and how they change seasonaly.

Youngsters can grow fast when they have been treated to kill internal parasites. I got some that were barely an inch, and treated them. They reached 2" (doubled in size, and a lot fatter) in less than a year.
After that they slowed down. I have had them about 3 or 4 years and they are about 4"+ now ...

I am new to the forum an to clown loaches too:) I have been keeping tropical fish for 25years and just purchased few clowns.
