Tuberoschistura: underwater pix

I went to dive in the same stream in the west of Thailand, the same place I have been diving the last 5-6 years. This time during the new year, there were so many people that they forced me to walk a little bit more up stream, into a new type of habitat. The reward was this set of Tuberoschistura sp...

At least in Thailand, yellow tailed variety are majority in ChoaPhraya drainage while Red tailed variety are majority in MeKong drainage. Note the word majority, they can be found living in the same habitat and school.

In the international trade, which variety is more available?

If you are going for Acanthopsis, they will need sand bottom to hide under. I know sand is very difficult to take care, but it will be really worth seeing them horssy dive in and out of it.

Some loaches in natural habitat: Namnow NP.

Namnow NP. situated on Phetchaboon mountain range that divided central plain with the Korat plateau, in effect, divided Choa Phraya Riv. besin with Me Kong besin. It is there for quite fun to just cross the mountain to find two different set of fish. Anyway, this time, we concentrated on Me Kong par...

Some loaches -and their friends- in natural habitat.

Nadee is a small town in the East of Thailand. We visited this place for a second time in two years, looking for Barbucca diabolicus. We failed again but it was still a good trip. Some pix. I'm not sure which population of S. balteata you have, but I have seen them live in both tanin stained water and in clear stream water. This species love a lot of current, a lot of hiding place, extreamly good quality water and they hate high percentage water change. My advice is to change very smal...

Two method that work best for me: First, already mentioned in the above post, large net, put it down the riffle, then start kicking the rock disturb the whole thing as much as possible, then see what end up in the net. Second, dive down with snorkel gear and a small hand net, spot your target and tr...

Horse-face in nature

Mae Ping is one of the four major tributaries of Choa Phraya, the major blood vein of Thailand. During this low season, the water has receeded enought that sand banks have been exposed. I passed throught this area 2 weeks ago and though of all the horse-face I might find. So, yesterday, I prepared a...

Here you go. From the two location I have seen them, they don't really stay at the main stream current, certainly not at the rapid. So they love moving water but not much. http://www.siamensis.org/images/webboard_images/FishesPics_reply_115500.jpg http://www.siamensis.org/images/webboard_images/Fish...
