Their color won't stay pretty for long. Black > brown, white > yellowish, and overall pattern turns less and less distinct with growth.

They seem to have different head shape from Nemachilus of Masyae or Platiceps group, and the front area of their dorsal fin base lacks the red marking typical of masyae/platiceps.

Since you mention the sweetfish do you know is it true that sweetfish in nature lives for only a little more than a year?

But not charming enough for 60 Euro  Unfortunately it would be more preferable if the color change is similar to Sewellia

Those Hampalas were seen making sucking movement on the substrate as well [on different trip]. Perhaps they know how to make a comfortable living in headwater streams where lots of food are hiding on the floor.

Not likely. Not sure for balteatas but a related species has females with weaker color, but still fine color nontheless [with weak orange/red/yellow]. You can see in my avatar what male's head should look like with its puffy cheek

Nice balteatas. In nature both yellow, pink and orange tail individuals are found in the same place.

Here's a few updated pics for you  :

They are still very active (hence hard to photograph!) and are feeding well. :D

Emma
Look like they are losing the red color?
