Catching clown loaches in the wild, not much to see other than very silty river.

Re: Planaria

Generally planarian are harmless. Cut back on feeding and do a thorough vacuum of your gravel. It may take a few weeks but you'll eventually get them. Good luck! I'm not so sure... but hopefully. It's not like the tank is over fed or particularly dirty anyway but I suppose it's been feeding on some...

Re: Dojo loaches

I understood that but I think they can be a bit fussy about their food to maybe eat all the uneaten bits, but it would depend on what was left over. They also manage to spit pellets all over the place as they eat. That's one reason why they are messy. But for getting rid of all types of snails, they...

Re: Dojo loaches

I have a 55g planted tank and want to add a loach to clean the sand substrate. I don't have much experience with them and was wondering if they would do a good job cleaning the sand and eating snails. I'd never describe Dojos as able to clean the substrate; they are very messy fishes in my experien...

Planaria

Hello, I've never seen one in any of my tanks before but last night I was up later than usual and the aquarium light still on and I happened to see a planarian (light brown coloured) crawl over a stone. I've no idea how it got in there or how many or how long they've been in there. As I've shrimp, I...

Re: unknown bugs

They are above the water-line it seems. They are springtails of some kind (Collumbola) by the looks of them. Harmless, they are feeding on grime. If you don't want them there then you simply need to clean the area around the top of the aquarium. They can't live under the water. As to fresh waterlice...

Re: some questions about my Dojos, some pics for your troubl

Beautiful fish, the problem is they do grow a lot bigger. Without that extra tank size they will pollute the water and they are messy fish to start with. I couldn't see the "milky blotches" but they are prone to fungal infections so if the spots are woolly/fluffy above the skin then it is fungus and...

Re: River tank water turn over?

So basically, any Eheim is compatible with any tank as long as too high a speed of water isn't an issue? I was wondering if the more powerful canister filters perhaps needed more water / larger tanks. If that isn't the case then I haven't any problems, I'll go with something affordable for me, yet p...

Re: What kind of pothos plants reduce nitrate?

I've grown Acorus gramineus in two tanks. It does well with the leaves emerging from the water and looks great. Currently I'm experimenting with spider plants Chlorophytum comosum as well.

Re: River tank water turn over?

I also thought the more the better but then questioned that. A limited space could have too much water movement especially if the water was forced out of the tank with its fishes!
So, I'm worried about too much flow but also don't wish to be disappointed with too little flow.

River tank water turn over?

I'm setting up a new tank and wondered how often the water should be turning over through filtration. My tank has about 75 litres (about 20 US gallons / 16 Imperial gallons). For a tank with Sewellia lineolata how much movement of water is best for them? Lowest to highest ranges approximate? Just lo...

I just want to say "awesome project" too! Some great ideas and it looks like a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll get some cool science out of it.
Thanks for sharing it Jay and hope you can keep us updated.

Re: Ideas for a new setup

Thank you Diana, that sounds great! Is it easy to use though? How should I do it? Should I squeeze some in a puddle and place the stone on top straight away? I'm interested in how you did it with "keeping the substrate up on the higher side of the wall." Is it worth putting some down and then coatin...
