Re: Stress kills - and the fish don't like it either.

Bringing down the tank temp probably would bring the ich back, because ich love the lower temps. I have my tank temp at 86 degrees and it has been there ever since Baby Girl, my biggest clown loach, got better from being sick last year. I have only one heater. It does not take two heaters to keep a ...

Re: Dying Clown Loaches

Your water parameters were probably off. Never get your water tested by the pet store. They will always say that it is okay. What you should do is purchase an API liquid test kit to test your tank water. Clown loaches are very sensitive to changing water conditions. There could have been toxins in t...

Re: Stress kills - and the fish don't like it either.

Can you get your hands on Aquari-sol? It is a medication that can be used at full strength with clown loaches. Also it can be used as a preventative for all diseases. I have to text my friend and see if you can use the full strength of quinine sulfate or you have to use half dose. But I am pretty su...

Re: Stress kills - and the fish don't like it either.

First I like to say, sorry you have to go through this. Yes quinine sulfate will kill the ich, also the heat. I would very slowly raise it to 90 degrees and leave it there. If your fish start having issues because of the raised heat then drop it slowly back down to 87 degrees. But watch your fish. 9...

Re: Treat velvet?

For velvet with clown loaches: you can treat with ich medicine, but figure out the full dose for the tank and half it. You have to half dose the medicine because the malachite green and formalin will burn them at the full dose. Plus the full dose will kill clown loaches. They are sensitive to medici...

Re: New To the Forum!

I am not real sure why they are not making aquari-sol anymore. I have it because I ordered it from a guy on fishforums.com and I use it as a preventative for diseases.

Re: New To the Forum!

I don't think that you can get plecocaine anywhere in stores or online. If not, then let me know and I will get you in touch with the guy that I got the plecocaine from. I will have to ask him if he is willing to sell some aquari-sol to you as he has a very limited supply of it and the manufacturer ...

Re: New To the Forum!

As for food for the clown loaches and the other fish, PLECOCAINE is really good for fish. If you would like I can get you in touch with the person that has plecocaine and sells it. My clown loaches and plecos love it. They will also eat meal worms. Also if you can get your hands on some, Aquari-sol ...

Re: had a tragedy.......

Well tested my water and the results are as follows:

ammonia= .25ppm
nitrite= 0ppm
nitrate= 80ppm
pH= 7.6

I am doing a water change today so hopefully the ammonia will go down with the water change. I will test again in a few days and see if it went down.

Re: had a tragedy.......

I always fast my fish once a week. Today is fast day for them. I will test my tap water for nitrates. I am also going to be testing my tank water every week with the water changes. I am doing weekly water changes, I won't do daily. I don't want to chance stressing my clown loaches. My plecos may be ...

Re: had a tragedy.......

Thank you. So it could have been the toxins from the bucket that could have killed Flash. Yeah I am going to do a water change every week and hopefully the nitrates will go down steadily. The other two clown loaches are doing well every day. With the ammonia, I just cannot let it get pass .50ppm bec...

had a tragedy.......

I haven't been on for a long time, but thought that I would try to get answers here since I have been trying to find out why one of my clown loaches died. Here is the story on that: I was doing a deep clean on my 55 gallon tank on Monday the 12th of November 2012. I put the clown loaches and plecos ...

Re: Popping Noise.

Clown loaches don't come towards you when they are scared, they swim away and hide when they are scared. If you are doing it lightly mimicking the sound they make then they are coming to that sound. But I wouldn't do it too much. Baby Girl, my biggest clown loach, comes towards me when I approach th...

Re: Popping Noise.

Yes that is normal, it is called graying out. They do this when they are establishing pecking order. Usually the female will be the alpha of the group.

The noise you are hearing is called "clicking" they do this when they are happy and when they are fed their favorite food.
