Re: LIVE STREAMING LOACH CAM!!!
Rock + Glass = Wet Floor with lots of ham :( by exploding i meant all ig the water came out at once, not literally fire  I think I've been misquoted. :D I was referring to the manner in which the glass breaks. Regular window glass will crack and split, making large shards and sometimes not bre...

Re: How do you quarantine loaches?
Sad to hear it. The best treatment, in my experience, for ich on loaches is to get the tank up to 86 - 87 F as quickly as is reasonable (no more than a degree every few hours), and add salt, starting at about a tablespoon per 10 gallons (added over the course of a day or two) and then slowly increas...

Re: Show us your Funny Loach Pic's
It's 90 gallons (48" x 18" x 24"). I know that in a few years I'll have to rehome the clowns to a bigger tank, but the 90 is plenty big for now.Feihu wrote:How big is your tank?

Re: New Loach-a-Holic!
I wasn't looking for argument. I was just trying to be helpful by stating the fact that loaches and cichlids are best kept in different tanks because of their different needs and behaviors. I didn't say that they COULDN'T be kept together, rather that they SHOULDN'T be kept together. I hope t...

Re: New Loach-a-Holic!
I have heard of people successfully keeping less aggressive SA cichlids with loaches, but it's still not generally recommended. They will compete for the same territory, and since their behavior patterns are so different, one or the other tends to get stressed. As for water conditions, mixing South ...

Re: New Loach-a-Holic!
Please do not put loaches in with your cichlids, loaches and cichlids do not mix well. Your yoyos will likely be small enough (especially at time of purchase) to be viewed as a food item for most cichlids. Even if they are large enough that they won't get eaten, either the cichlids or, more likely, ...

Re: Update with good news, and maybe some bad news
In your shoes, I would wait it out. Your UV sterilizer will do a good job of preventing most pathogens from spreading in your main tank, if they even made it there in the first place. If you see any signs of ich in the q-tank, by all means consider treating the main tank as well. However, treating t...

Re: 75 gallon tank with clown loaches
In my youth, I bought a pair of juvenile channel catfish and put them in my 55 gallon tank. Within 18 months they had gone from 3" to nearly 18", in a 12" wide tank. Needless to say, I had to give them up (they went to a friend who owned an aquarium store). More recently I added a featherfin catfish...

Re: not eatng
It's impossible to tell you what you are doing wrong when you don't actually tell us what it is that you are doing. What specific species of fish are in your tank? How many of each? What are the water parameters (pH, temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates, etc.)? What is the tank size? What kind/am...

Re: Tank Mates?
If size and compatibility are your driving concerns, I suggest going with rainbows. They get up to 3 - 4" typically, go well with clown loaches, are very pretty, have good personalities, are active in the mid-level of the tank, and are fun to keep. They are shoaling fish, so don't hesitate to get a ...

Re: Anyone only have 1 Clown Loach?
All the literature I've read states that clown loaches should be kept in water that's between 78 and 87 F (25 to 30 C). I've also read that fish can get stressed when kept at temperatures that are close to or at their minimum or maximum. Beyond that, I can only speak from my own personal experience:...

Re: Anyone only have 1 Clown Loach?
What NancyD says is exactly right, but I'd like to add that in my experience clown loaches do seem to get a bit stressed when the tank temp is below 80 F, which can make them more susceptible to illness. I run my setup at 81-82 degrees, and my clowns are healthy, active, happy, and growing like weeds.
