Re: Clown Loaches lost bright orange coloration

I've looked around and some forums mention that they sometimes loose color when they are nervous. Did you make big changes to your tank? I'm thinking if you used to have lots of plants, maybe removed some hidey holes...they could be a bit stressed out. I'd try to give them some places to hide and ma...

Re: Filter Recommendation

I've read that some people drill a small hole toward the top of their intake (still below the water level) to avoid having a disaster with an external filter. To be honest, I've never tried it but you could research it and see if someone has. Also, You don't have to have the intake WAY at the bottom...

Re: Zodiac (Batik) Loach is mean! Help!

Granted, sometimes you just can't have certain fish in with others. I had to return a Skunk loach who was torturing my entire tank of Yoyos and Clown loaches. He was awful to catch and I had to take everything out as the little sucker was fast! Either way, he went straight to my local smaller fish s...

Re: what kind of loach???

If you can find the banded khuli loaches, they are adorable! They also do fun stuff like climb my plants and Cabomba. :)

Re: Clown Loach proof plants?

Hopefully, your clowns won't do what one of mine did to a Marino ball...sorta took it apart piece by piece. It was pretty funny. Honestly though, if you distract via food - might work. I've got a tank load of fish and they devoured a whole cucumber over TWO days! It was nuts. I cut the raw cucumber ...

Re: I want to know about your lighting set ups!

I agree. I have glass tops too and need them for my more active jumpers. Heck, every once in a while my ghost knife does some sort of jumping up in the middle of the night so I don't want to loose him either. But, I've been thinking of building a frame using mesh and window like corners to put under...

Re: sterilizing black brush algae

Be careful with hydrogen peroxide. Some plants seem to hate the stuff. I used it on some swords and they sorta just died and melted away. The algae died too but it was pretty worthless. I use that algaecide by AP. I'm actually testing throwing the plants in a bucket of water out in the sun with it t...

Re: Advice

I don't buy fish from Petco anymore. I've had pretty bad luck with their stock. I don't know why but it seems like the majority of the fish I bought from them died within a year of buying them. I'd go to an aquarium store if you have any. They tend to do a better job caring for their fish. I also go...

Re: Clown Loach proof plants?

Hmm. I have a planted tank but haven't had those types of issues. I have Carolina Cabomba (though they all seem darn similar). You could try that one and see how he does with it. I also have water sprite which tends to fall apart and float to the top so it's not that big of a deal..just shove it bac...

Re: My Black Ghost Knife

Thanks. I've been growing him for about a year and a half. He started out only being like 3 inches long. I suspect the hikari protein food I'd given him made him grow super fast. Now he's on frozen brine shrimp and blood worms.

Skin fungus? I had a patch like that on a Rosy Barb and I treated it with Kordon's Rid Fungus for a few weeks and it went away.

Re: HELP! E heim 2215 info

With the biomax and sponges or just the sponges. I would like just to use the sponges because it is cheaper. I have an Eheim 2215 and I use bio media in it as well as the sponges. The blue foam stuff is easier to rinse out so you'll find that pretty reusable. The hollow media ceramic rings pick up a...

Re: Does anyone make a good algae wafer?

I use the Omega algae wafers from Petsmart. I've tried various others but they just ignore them. These, I put them in and they vanish like they think they're eating some sort of luxurious food.
