I've kept Protomyzon and they require similar care to other Hillstream Loaches. Never kept this particular species, but you shouldn't find them difficult to keep.

All these fish will tolerate higher temperatures IF they are provided with adequate oxygen. This means lots of water-movement and surface disturbance for gaseous exchange. Sustained periods of elevated temps are likely to be detrimental to the fishes' overall health and may affect longevity. Martin.

A short length of plastic tubing that fits tightly on the oultet nozzle can cover the other hole without infringing on the water flow in the pipe itself and negating some of the "tuning". These m...

Fish sense their environment in ways we can only imagine the scope of. If you're interested in learning more about this stuff in a readily understandable, non-scientific jargon kind of way, I can very highly recommend the book Fish Behaviour in the Aquarium & in the Wild by Stephan Reebs. This was o...

All of the Walmarts in the Toronto area are supplied by one wholesaler. Walmart never seem to stock anything that retails over about $8 so I have to believe these were never specifically ordered. I bet they got stuck in the wrong box accidentally during a major fish packing session for multiple reta...

Duff, what are those little orange things in Sid tank? Those look like the small terracota open bottomed pots that many bunch plants are coming packaged in from Singapore these days. They wrap the plant's shoot ends in a porous sheet material and insert them into those. Rooted plants too. Very busy...

http://www.thirdwayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/walmart.jpeg No this isn't an advert or a tale of woe. I've seen many people bitch about big-box store type fish departments but believe me they are not all as bad as some and occasionally can totally surprise you. Like today. My other half ask...

Harlequin Rasboras are very accomplished fry-hunters. It's a shame, but inevitable you'll lose some to predation especially if the parents let their guard drop.
