Re: Near Disaster!! (An interesting Day today)

I think I will do as you suggest, it's only a matter of time before I do loose one this way, cheers for the suggestion. I got lucky twice in a row, won't be so lucky next time I reckon. I'll lower the water level too as it is a bit high. Curiosity kills the loach as well as the cat!! And I know what...

Re: Near Disaster!! (An interesting Day today)

Well, i happened again yesterday, another Kamikaze Robusta!! I got home from work and went to feed my fish. I went to the open jam jar I had left beside the Loach tank as I put the food in tank water and distribute it using that. What do i find? a loach in the jam jar that literally only had a drop ...

Re: Near Disaster!! (An interesting Day today)

I was worried I must admit as there weren't many of these loaches got in and I was told it'd be very unlikely these were going to be got in again so I really didn't want one to play Kamikaze on me! Lord knows how long it was there, hopefully not long, perhaps I spooked it when I was mving the powerh...

Hillstream tank Manifold question.

Hi, I recently acquired some Loaches (Gastromyzon viriosus) to be exact (cheers for the ID Jim  ) They're sharing a tank with two more Hillstream loaches that are very camera shy so i'm yet to have them properly identified and with 13 Sinibotia Robusta and some Tiger Barbs (Yes I know a strang...

Near Disaster!! (An interesting Day today)

Well, earlier today I was doing my weekly water changes etc. I gave the U3 Filter a complete clean out as I have to every couple of weeks and I decided to do the same with the BF2200 powerhead. Instead of doing the manifold design I stuck to keeping the filter separate and using just one filter cham...

Re: More Loaches for my Mini Hillstream Tank

Once again mate, many thanks for yet more very helpful advice. I have similar when I try and feed my Acanthicus Adonis Pleco and Spotted Talking Catfish at night with my Koi and Common Goldfish. The Koi/Goldfish go nuts for the Large Pellets and the Pleco and Catfish hardly got a shot at them. I've ...

Re: More Loaches for my Mini Hillstream Tank

Cheers again Jim. I hadn't seen them before, i've got them in temporarily with the Robusta and there doesn't seem to be any trouble between any of the fish at all. I may do another, small 3ft Hillstream tank for these and possibly some more Hillstream loaches as I don't want to find out the hard way...

More Loaches for my Mini Hillstream Tank

I called up to my local LFS's as I seem to do every weekend now and came across these amongst the Goldfish. There were only four of them in the tank so I thought i'd have them as i've never seen these ones yet. http://imageshack.us/a/img802/2245/0062w.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img38/2388/0042jx.jpg...

Re: Mini Hillstream Tank

Thanks Starsplitter7, that's much appreciated. In all honesty though, it is very basic, it's only 12" deep so I was very much limited to what layout I could do. I want to add just a couple of plants as normally half the Banded Loaches seem to hide in amongst the leaves. Just looking into what plants...

Re: Mini Hillstream Tank

The images seem to have been cropped to the right so unfortunately you are missing the right hand 4 inches. But then again, it's not that interesting, it's just the plastic plant. One thing though I was thinking about, was would it be a god idea to get a wave maker? The single 2200lph gives decent c...

Mini Hillstream Tank

Hi Folks, Well after too long of having my Sinibotia Robusta in a 2ft tank I got hold of a 3ft tank and did a mini hillstream set up based on what others have done here previously. I added more of these Loaches and now have 13. Last week I added two Hillstream Loaches to see how they get on. Thus fa...

Re: Chinese banded loaches

Very true!! :D

I just looked up the Killifish, they are very nice, your set up must have been a very nice one to look at and for the fish obviously.

I'll be very careful and will update on progress with them. Cheers for the help Jim, much appreciated mate.

Re: Pics from my tanks

That's some hell of a set of tanks Glenny!! I've only really started the foray into tropicals very recently but a planted aquarium half as good as any of these would make me very proud indeed. There's alot of careful thought and consideration gone into the planning of these I dare say to look so nat...

Re: Chinese banded loaches

Ah, sorry to hear that.

I'm looking at a 4ft x 1ft x 1.5ft tank in the first instance. 140 litres / 37 US gallons I believe.

How many did you keep at any one time in your 29 Galloner? Did you have a community tank set up or was it specifically set up just for them?

Re: Chinese banded loaches

Cheers Jim, I think you're right from the looks of things. Barring the species description on this site there doesn't appear to me to be very many of us that keep Pulchra and Robusta loaches. I like the idea of pioneering so to speak but I must confess I had hoped that I would have the safety net of...
