Loach ID Help

Hey Everyone, I just received in some new loaches to my hillstream tank. I received some Sewellia cf beventralis, but they don't look like any Sewellia I have seen. I am thinking they might possibly be Beaufortia because I have not had that fish before and these are quite large. The body shape is pr...

Serpenticobitis octozona

Hey Everyone, This species has quickly become a fish room favorite. I have had them for about three months and they have really put on weight and thickened up on a never ending supply of gel food. Some of the largest ones (likely females) look like they are approaching 7 cm. They are the tank clowns...

Re: Feeding Gel Diets in a River Tank

Allen, you feeding vids are wonderful! Do you add extra water to your gel mix to dip the lava rock into it? I tried smoother river stones & wet wood, just kinda smeared it on, it didn't stick very well at 3:1, it sets up fast even though the fish had no trouble finding the food. I now put small chu...

Re: Feeding Gel Diets in a River Tank

Do you have anymore video of the feeding? Have you tried coating smoother types of rock? I will add some more feeding videos if you are interested. Anything particular you want to see? The gel will not stick to smooth rocks like river rock. It needs to be coarse rock like volcanic lava, pumice, etc...

Re: Feeding Gel Diets in a River Tank

Nice. Your Repashy gel product looks brillant. I love the fact that it can be heat-coated onto rocks, and then placed into a hillstream tank. Simply brilliant. I continue to wish it was available here in Australia. I think I am going to have to risk purchasing some and hoping it gets through Austra...

Feeding Gel Diets in a River Tank

Hey everyone,

I made a couple of quick videos using my Soilent Green Gel on a piece of lava rock directly in a high flow river tank over the course of several hours.

Cheers, Allen

Re: My new Hillstream Tank

Here is a video of the River Tank with the pump installed. Flow is 10,000 lph (2600gph) from left to right using the manifolds in combination with a porosity 100 Poret Mattenfilter from Swiss Tropicals.

Re: My new Hillstream Tank

I built the intake and exhaust manifolds this afternoon... at least the first versions  The intake manifold is made of 1" ID pipe and will go behind the full width Poret filter foam pad. This design should prevent collapse of the 4" thick foam block under high flow conditions if it starts to p...

Shistura behavoir

Hey everyone, I have a group of Shistura pridii in my new Hillstream tank and am observing some interesting behavior. I have not worked with this genus before, so maybe someone who has experience, can translate some of this behavior. It appears to clearly be a male and female. They have paired up ou...

Re: My new Hillstream Tank

Just a little update..... finally got my DC pump and going to play around this weekend building the manifolds and plumbing. 2600 gph flowing from one end of the tank to the other (left to right) should produce quite a flow in a hundred gallon tank. That is at a rate that would empty the whole tank i...

Re: My new Hillstream Tank

I think the biggest inherent flaw of that design is that when you use submerged pumps, you are getting all the heat from the motors absorbed directly into the water. Your options to get the temps down without reducing flow are not cheap..... buy an expensive chiller, or switch to a closed loop syste...

Re: My new Hillstream Tank

That is an amazing tank, Allen. I really love the idea that there is some shistura specimins in there. I wish your food range was available here in Australia. I would attempt to self-import my own but Iam worried that they would get confiscated at the airport. I believe some of your products have f...
