Re: Suggestions for 20g long high-flow w/o powerheads

These fish spend most most of the time in places with low flow. This is correct. They care less about flow and more about highly oxygenated, clean water. So an AC 50 on a 20L should be sufficient without modification. Side note: if you want them to spawn, use a mix of gravel and sand as the substra...

Re: Subtropical hillstream tank suggestions?

So cool to find someone else with this fish! What are the odds? I'm surprised you have glass cats in a river tank, though. I've read they like a balance between calm areas and a little more current. I always imagined that would mean a generally low flow planted tank with areas of higher flow from t...

Re: Subtropical hillstream tank suggestions?

I have 3 tachy's in my 75 gallon river with several species of smaller loaches (including pandas), corydoras, scleromystax, ancistrus and kryptopterus (glass cats). Plants include anubias and ludwigia with some hornwort and najas. The tachy's mostly keep to themselves and hang out/rest in the plants...

Re: panda loach(goby) [Protomyzon pachychilus]

True, my water is on the softer side. I haven't checked gh or kh in a while but my TDS are 120-135. My pH is right around 7.2

Re: panda loach(goby) [Protomyzon pachychilus]

I now have several tanks of these but my original group is still going strong. Temp is consistently 70 - 74 (21-23). HOB filter with a turnover of about 10x plus a power head for extra aeration. I have an anubias and some floating plants (najas and hornwort) and cladophora on several surfaces. *edit...

Re: panda loach(goby) [Protomyzon pachychilus]

I've been breeding these for a couple years now, including F1's. In fact, there's another member on here (zeelandtrop) who has raised fry from my F1's.

Pseudogastromyzon sp.

Mislabeled as "butterfly hillstream loach" :D I believe they are pseudogastromyzon. http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r786/atmichaels/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/A9208A43-6410-4BDD-BB95-002285E0AE79_zpstj2rnw8u.jpg http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r786/atmichaels/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/5C6235FC-...

Re: Fins turning white

There was no change in his condition using the recommended protocols for minocycline. I kept him in the hospital tank without treatment (other than daily water changes) for an additional two weeks and then treated with amoxicillin. After 4 days of amoxicillin his fins began to clear and were complet...

Re: Fins turning white

My best guess is a bacterial infection similar to what causes fin rot in poorly kept bettas. He's in a hospital tank and I'm treating with minocycline and monitoring closely.

Fins turning white

This is a new one on me. One of my panda loaches has normally clear fins that have turned white. Anyone seen this before? http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r786/atmichaels/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-01/E2E87DB5-7C59-425D-9EBE-8D515AD44987_zpshhvumj6d.jpg http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r786/atmicha...
