Has anyone ever kept a betta with neon tetras?

I have a ten gallon heavy planted tank with four oto cats and nine neon tetras and now we have two bettas in bowls. I would love to set up a tank for them, partitioned with black acrylic so they couldn't see each other, but things being what they are another tank is out of the question for now. I wo...

Re: River tank set up, advice on flow please?

The manufacturer would be able to tell you what the pump can do at a particular head pressure, they have some nice graphs that showing flow rates at different head pressure. They use straight piping with no bends or elbows of any kind at zero head, general rule of the thumb is each soft(curved ninet...

Re: River tank set up, advice on flow please?

Excellent info. Thank you all who replied. If it has been proven that PVC glue doesn't affect fish and plant life I will go ahead and glue them. I know if I were to sand the fittings and pipe with 80 grit paper the silicone would hold it and not leak but I'd rather use my weld on PVC glue, that stuf...

Re: River tank set up, advice on flow please?

Thank you for your input. I am a little too paranoid about water leakage from un-glued PVC joints, I am planning on using silicone instead of PVC glue. The piping will be exterior of the tank and wood floors hate water. Plus being a plumber professionally means I have to attach it somehow. There wil...

Re: River tank set up, advice on flow please?

Thanks for the reply, after looking at photos of sewellia in they're native environment it appears to be mostly rocky steam bed with little to no vegetation. And fast moving water with small waterfall/rapids so I'm not going to plant this tank, just bare rock, gravel and the driftwood. The manifold ...

River tank set up, advice on flow please?

I got a bug up my somewhere and am going to set up a 34 gallon river tank finally. The tank will be 3' long 1.5' wide and 1' deep. Dedicated to sewellia, hopefully breeding. I am looking at circulation pumps now and not sure how much is to much, with the manifold I'm planning I can control flow velo...

Re: Super Glue is really safe???

I could be wrong and if I am PLEASE let me know but super glue is a cyanoacrylate adhesive, very good for plastics, in fact I believe acrylic tanks are made using cyanoacrylate adhesives. obviously not super glue brand but similar if not same chemical makeup. Can anyone verify that? Having trouble s...

Re: Advice on to add or not to add more

That is totally up to how often do you want to do water changes and how much filter you have going on. I have a 55 gal standard tank and by almost everyone's estimation my 2 angels ~7 inch tall 5 clowns between 2 ~5inch 4 striata ~5inch 2 zipper loaches ~3 inch 3 blue bota ~4inch 9 hillstreams vario...

Re: Throw away your canister filters !

Sonic, I do not see how a hole in the return pipe can prevent all causes of flooding. But perhaps it has the potential to help in some cases by preventing syphoning from this pipe if done correctly. Please elaborate. There are two pipes connected to my external filter and various seals and connecti...

Re: The Dream Tank Begins

I am unable to post pics, sorry. I didn't want to put the airline in before the filter for fear of the cavitation making the pump unbearably loud. Also I didn't want to tax the motor more than needed. As it is the bubble system is a bit noisier than I was hoping it would be, but the fish are happy s...

Re: a few rookie questions

Check your dream tank post, I put up a way to superoxygenate my tank that may be usefull to you.hope it helps. I keep my hillstreams with tetras angels killi and other loaches (about twelve other loaches) and everybody seems happy and content with the company of eachother. My experience has showed i...

Re: The Dream Tank Begins

I drilled out a few holes in my river tank manifold, I did the same as you and used a cannister filter, and put some airlines into the outflow piping near the return nozzles. Now I have strong water flow and a butt ton of bubbles that my loaches love, It reminds me of the bottom of waterfall in a br...
