aquarium chillers

Hi, I just lost my two dojo loaches. They were about 12 years old. I'm heartbroken over this. It was my fault they died. Can you help me? We have been having a terrible hot spell this summer. I try to change the water in my cold water aquarium every week. It's a 40 gallon tank. I don't fill it compl...

Re: Sick loach?

I have enough hiding places for an elephant loach if there is such a species but that is a good point. I thought it might have gotten into a fight with the pleco. I was concerned about buying it. I've had problems with them before. I had a common pleco that got to be over a foot long and all of a su...

Re: some questions about my Dojos, some pics for your troubl

I had 3 dojo loaches. They are about 10 years old except for the one that died last summer. I think two of them were mates. They always laid next to each other and hid together. The third was a friend but he slept separate from the other 2. As far as I know they never bred. I wish they had but if th...

Sick loach?

Hi, I have a striped botia. He is about 4" long and 10 to 12 years old. He is in a 125 gallon tank with 2 12" Tin Foil Barbs about 13 years old, a upside down catfish and an ornate bircher about 12 years old. I had 3 barbs but about 2 weeks ago one of them died. There was no sign of an illness. When...

Re: My kubotai dream coming true

I haven't kept up with advances in tank care for several years. I've never heard of a background filter. They sound interesting.

That is an awesome tank. I wish I could have one that big.

Re: My kubotai dream coming true

That is an interesting tank. I haven't set one up in awhile and that background looks awesome. I don't understand it though. In your picture it looks like it is filled with hair curlers. I'm guessing this is some kind of filtration?

How much does that mountain thing decrease the size of your tank?

Re: Glofish

Actually they are very brightly colored in regular light, and the "special" light is just a blacklight, you can buy one at walmart for around $10. You don't have to buy the high dollar LED light. Does a blacklight get hot? Years ago I cracked the glass on my light hood by putting a red light up the...

Maybe I can find some Homer Simpson stuff with those 3 eyed fish and stuff. That would be a hoot and a half.

Re: Glofish

After I replied to your post I looked up biotope. I do have a biotope tank now for my tin foil barbs. It is pretty accurate for an Asian riverbed. There is an African cichlid vacationing there at this time. He's too mean to keep with any other fish. If he bothers the barbs they are so bad they send ...

Re: Red algae

It is that color but if you have ever seen a picture of a giant sequoia tree that has been cut down and look at the rings. It is more like that. It is one solid mass of thumb prints. I'm trying the light thing and doing massive water changes weekly hoping that will help. It doesn't seem to bother th...

Re: Glofish

I don't know what GMO means and I'm not sure what a biotope aquarium would be. I'd love it if you would get on your soapbox and dish a little.

Re: Loaches and eels

I've had a tire track eel before and I'm looking at those or a black spotted eel. I'm really tempted to buy a fire eel but if it grew full size it would be too big for even my 125 gallon tank so I'm hoping I don't give into desire. They have a beautiful one for sale at the pet store. He is only abou...
